De Tomaso Panthera design study

Italian marque De Tomaso may be long and gone but the legend of its Pantera supercar from the 1970s lives on in the form of the modern Panthera design study from German designer Stefan Schulze. Although just a concept, Schulze envisages his new design one day being built over the mechanicals of a Lamborghini Gallardo and sold as a modern version of the original Pantera.

Although the chances of this happening are unlikely, there is some hope for the rebirth of the Tomaso brand. Last year reports emerged claiming a group of American and Chinese investors were investigating the possibility of building new versions of the Pantera and Mangusta (another Tomaso vehicle) supercars.
The original Pantera was a unique Italian supercar built from 1970 up until 1996 in very limited numbers. It featured a steel monocoque chassis and a 330hp 5.7L Ford Cleveland V8 engine mated to a ZF five-speed manual. The cars were sold in the US by Ford through its Lincoln dealers and one was even sold to Elvis Presley.
