| Zune outsold in US by iPod accessory -

iPods claimed five of the top ten spots in Amazon's consumer electronics chart over the key US shopping weekend.
Apple's portable music players took another five of the top 25 bestsellers, with Microsoft's heavily marketed Zune so far behind that it was outsold by an iPod accessory. The Microsoft player was number 75 behind Apple's USB power adapter at 65.
The weekend sales, which follow the Thanksgiving holiday, show that as things stand the iPod appears immune to the Zune, according to Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore.
Whitmore said that all three iPod models are selling well and that his checks indicate that Apple is having no problem with meeting demand. He added that the decision to release the new nanos in a variety of colours is proving particularly popular.
ThinkEquity Partners analyst Jonathan Hoopes said that Apple's retail stores are a key factor in the iPod's continued dominance of its market.
'Apple's Retail Store is a clear differentiator and significant catalyst for further gains and profit-margin expansion,' he wrote in a note to investors. 'Never in the history of the PC, has a company been better positioned to both gain share and improve profitability, in our opinion.'
Apple's own stores aside, a recent survey found that 70 per cent of retailers recommend iPods in preference to other players.

Zune just came out (we don't even have it yet in Canada)... so give it a break.
Anyhow, MS is soooooooooo late in the game that's going to take alot of time to get established (like it was/is with the Xbox). | | | | | Devotee

I just think it is funny, you would think all the microsoft fanboys would have been in line over the massive shopping holiday to get their hands on one, especially since alot of them love bashing apple. | | | | | Global Moderator

Apple has made an excelent product that has yet to be rivaled. Not sure Zune will be able to do much even though iPods have their flaws. | | | | | Aficionado

It does have an amazing screen but that's it.
The Ipod certainly isn't flawless. I myself received 2 new Ipod mini's after the original one from repair. And my current video is in for repair. But there just is nothing out there that I would prefer in terms of looks, feel, materials and use. | | | | | Executive

Two boxed Zune players sat ignored on the top shelf of a Plexiglas showcase packed with iPod accessories in a Virgin Megastore near Union Square in San Francisco's popular shopping district.
"I didn't even know they were there until a customer pointed them out," said sales clerk Jake Brooks. "I'm sure we have more in a closet in the back somewhere."
By mid-afternoon the store had sold one Zune player and one other person had inquired about them.

Y es, Microsoft's new Zune digital music player is just plain dreadful. I've spent a week setting this thing up and using it, and the overall experience is about as pleasant as having an airbag deploy in your face.
"Avoid," is my general message. The Zune is a square wheel, a product that's so absurd and so obviously immune to success that it evokes something akin to a sense of pity.
The setup process stands among the very worst experiences I've ever had with digital music players. The installer app failed, and an hour into the ordeal, I found myself asking my office goldfish, "Has it really come to this? Am I really about to manually create and install a .dll file?"
But there it was, right on the Zune's tech support page. Is this really what parents want to be doing at 4 a.m. on Christmas morning?

Ouch! Poor MS. Hopefully this is a just disgruntled ipod owners that are reluctant to accept the Zune, because if not, MS is in big trouble. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
