| Burn marks from laptop. -
05-18-2007, 04:55 PM
While inspecting my beloved body before stepping into the shower a few hours I discovered something terrifying. A few centimeters above the left knee I noticed dark burn marks. I spend quite sometime with my laptop(or is it a notebook?) in bed.
Since air vents are located on the left corner on the back of the laptop I can't conclude anything else other than it's my computer which has caused the burn marks. Further more I have the latest days noticed that the Core temperature is constantly above 80 degrees and the air coming out of the vent is warm enough to melt an ice cube within minutes. Check out the screen cap below if you don't believe me.
The burn marks are not nice at all and might not disappear in the coming months. I feel that a replacement laptop isn't enough and that I should be compensated pretty well by HP. What do you guys think? | | | | | Advocate

If that was the case my scrotum would have been turned into grilled bacon.

May I jump into the topic and say:
Most everything you buy these days (game consoles, vehicles, computer, discs, programs, IPod's, CD players, speakers, etc) are rubbish.
I remember the days when you got one bad apple of out fifty. Now a days it's fifteen (is that too low of a number?) out of fifty. | | | | | Enthusiast

Most companies provide a comfort and usability guide that accompanies the laptop, that prevents such lawsuits. In fact HP is generally quite good, in that they put a sticker on each of thier laptops with warnings to read the comfort guide. Many people have tried and failed, and it was prompted because some guy became sterile from using the laptop on his lap, and sued and won.
The way to fix it - put a pillow between your lap and the laptop - or don't use the laptop on your lap. Also part of the reason the machine gets so hot is because your covering the intake vents usually located at the bottom on the notebook. The extake fans are usually located at the sides/back of the laptop. If you cover up the intake vents, the notebook isn't getting cool air, its just reusing the hot air that comes in from the extake fans. I'm sorry to say if your looking to get something out of HP, your defence isn't very good, because truth be told, its your fault - not theirs (no offence). Its a case of - if its getting hot then stop using it on your lap. | | | | | Expert

Now a days it's fifteen (is that too low of a number?) out of fifty. | I'm afraid there is a good portion of truth in what you just said Bruce. During the latest 2-3 threes I have had to return several defect products like two ipods, iriver mp3 player, now my laptop, Xbox steering wheel, a hand full of clothes, a watch and my two previous sell phones. Therefor I'm very keen on storing my receipts in a safe place, because buying merchandise these days, especially gadgets, is a big gamble. No matter if you buy something from Creative, Apple, Sony or Acer. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Centurion For This Useful Post: | | | Connoisseur

I rarely ever use my laptop on my lap. I usually use it on a table or I have it on my bed when I'm laying down.
btw..my laptop gets pretty hot but never hot enough to burn or anything. But common sense says that if it's hot, don't touch it.
