From: - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Stuttgart, Germany – Mercedes-Benz reports that its CLS-Class is performing extremely well, with more than 50,000 units sold worldwide since the vehicle's sales launch on October 2, 2004. The CLS-Class has a base price of $92,600 in Canada and combines the appearance of a coupe with the practicality of a four-door sedan.
The CLS-Class' largest market is the U.S., where 13,600 units were sold, followed by Germany, which accounts for more than 20 per cent of global sales. More than 40 per cent of global customers opt for the CLS 500, which is one of two variations sold in Canada, alongside a supercharged CLS 55 AMG version. Worldwide, the second-most popular is the CLS 350, followed by a high-performance diesel CLS 320 CDI, launched in May 2005. | | | | | Enthusiast

Great news and it isn't suprising at all. The car is about the hotest and most unique four door car you can get and the sales are bound to be high. | | | | | Contributor

Well style will always sell well. The CLS also proved that Mercedes hadn't completely forgot to make a proper interior also (it and the SLK) and now the new S drives home the point.
I wonder what the FL will bring and of course the next generatoin CLS. Should be quite a design.

In looking around on MBUSA.com I see that Mercedes has been busy giving us in the U.S. some of the options you European guys have. For instance on the CLS55 AMG: Giant brakes with two-piece compound rotors and multipiston calipers have been proven on the Formula One racetrack. The largest AMG tires available for use on the street stylishly enhance performance while showing off the massive brakes. The sport steering wheel is trimmed in high-grip Alcantara, helping you wield the car's power with panache.
This is from the AMG performance package. There are similar options for the SLK55 and SL55 also.
For the SL55 AMG: Upgraded wheels, tires, brakes, and differential have been proven on the Formula One racetrack. Inspired by the world's most revered track, AMG reprogrammed the Active Body Control (ABC) to a Nuerburgring calibration with 20-percent firmer front and rear damping rates for compression and rebound. Subtly enhanced styling inside and out starts with a front apron design taken from the SL safety car built to pace Formula One races.
Nice.

The CLS should sell well, it looks amazing and is the only MB I would consider buying, it reminds me of a Jaguar! Does anyone know if it has taken sales away from the E class? | | | | | Contributor

Its kinda hard to say. In the U.S. it seems like it did during the first 6 months that both cars were on sale at the same time, but then again there was a lot of new competition being introduced at the same time. I don't think it has taken sales away from the E, but the competition, age and bad press about reliability has definitely taken away some E sales.
