CLK63 AMG Black Series! - 08-24-2006, 06:59 AM

The last CLK DTM built by Mercedes AMG division was limited to a production of 100 cars, but they probably had orders for more than that. This is why AMG has apparently decided to build a new CLK DTM version now.

And since the first series was a limited edition, its successor needed a new design. Here are photos of a test car during high speed testing at Nürburgring. Not looking as wild as the first edition, the newcomer looks somewhat more discrete but still powerful.

Expect about the same horsepower as the first generation with the new 6.3 litre V8 delivering between 580 and 600 hp. AMG Chief, Volker Mornhinweg said in an recent interview that they might give the new 6.3 liter engine turbo and the new CGI fuel injection technology, thus a perfect engine for the AMG CLK DTM.

The pictures are showing an almost undisguised prototype, except for some camouflage on the air outlets in the front fenders

The new CLK DTM is expected to cost around 230,000 Euros, just like its predecessor. Not really a bargain, but for that money the dedicated buyer gets a car that accelerates to 200 km/h faster than he will be able to pronounce its name.

YES, YES, YES, it looks like the CLK-DTM is going to get the look from the CLK63 F1 Safety car with the big wheel arches and all! Possible turbo or direct-injection too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this really is CLK63 Black Edition I will have died and gone to heaven. Either what, no matter what they call it, I want two things:

1. It to be sold in the U.S. The hell with stepping the SLR's toes. Facelift the damn thing and bring on the roadster version to give the SLR some relief.

2. The styling from the CLK63 AMG Safety Car. This request is going to be honored going by the car in these pics.

That can't be a new DTM. Just like the Artist aid it must be a CLK black edition.

This is not the same car as in the first photos: look at the tail lights, they're different. This one has them like the prev. E Class, while the CLK in the first photos has them like the ones of the facelifted E-Class... But still looks really hot!

Doesn't look as good as the current CLK-DTM. Both front and rear are a step back in design. Only rear lights look better now. BTW why are there old rear lights in the pic that Luw posted? Can it be the same car?
