Body balance steering feel and handling in this car is amazing , plus ESP can be completely switched off ..........
Now tell me what's not so hardcore driving enthusiast about this masterpiece ?? | I'd encourage you to keep believing that ALI. However history and facts tell us something entirely different, AMG's are about straight line performance, not all roundtrack mastery and tactility, as an M is. AMG can inundate a car w/ the sporitest software settings, suspensions, bodykits, but at the end of the day, unlesss it's a DTM car, it's just a fast Mercedes Benz and nothing more. Now that's not belittling AMG's efforts or their cars, but for someone wanting a car that has some sort of supernatural ability, transforming asphalt into touch, giving you qualities of all round feel from all the cars moving parts that put the power to the road and maintain it.... well that's asking for something different from an AMG. You can call that "fanboy" behavior, but it's not, it's the honest truth that any respectable car enthusiast will acknowledge as fact. | | | | | Aficionado

I'm sorry Deutsch but I'd have to disagree with you there! If the F/Led SL55 AMG is anything to go by, AMGs have changed and now they are good round the twisties as well. If you remember the SL55 beat an M6 around a track, and thats without a CF roof or any of the other go faster technology the M6 has!
I think the SL55 can changed my mind about AMG cars, which the CLK DTM car started! | | | | | Me for President

| Well, in Autobild the M6 was faster than facelifted SL55 around their track. In Sportauto facelifted SL55 was 2.1 seconds slower than M6 around Hochenheim but the same time as the M5.
So its obvisoly it depend on the track, the SL55 beat the M6 one time around a track but it doesnt mean its going to win on every track in the world which Autobild and Sportauto showed us. | | | | | Connoisseur

I think the SL55 can changed my mind about AMG cars, which the CLK DTM car started! | Have you looked at the torque figures of the SL55 compared to the M6????????? That's the only reason the M6 got beat round the track, and as I have already pointed out, AMG's are all about straightline speed. I doubt the track consisted of more curves than straight aways, so the fact that the M6 got beat round a track by an SL55 is a very minor offense. Mentinoning the CF roof is neihter here nor there, that's only about a 10lb or so weight savings over the std. steel roof found on the core 6er coupe. I already made my point, don't see the need to keep repeating myself. | | | | | Aficionado

Yes, I get that just_me, but it does show everyone that AMGs aren't just about straight line performance as I always thought, they are good around bends as well! A car which couldn't handle very well couldn't beat the M6 around any track, so it shows the SL55 is very good, also I'm sure it's much heavier than the M6 considering it has the folding hard top! | | | | | Aficionado

OK Deutsch, so you're saying the reason why the SL55 was faster than the M6 was because of power, which I can understand! I sure the reason for that is because of bigger displacement and a supercharger, but the old SL55 which had similar amounts of power to the new one and it would never beat an M6 around a track, so something has changed!
Can someone please post power figures of the SL55 to compare with the M6! | | | | | Me for President

BTW before the facelift, SL55 was one second faster than M5 around Nordschleife. SL has alwyas been good handling cars. | | | | | Aficionado
