The power is really incredible for such a car especially combined with 7G-tronic.
Even though the CLK63 AMG is not really a true rival to the M5 due the segment difference but it could make the M5 run for its money on a straight line.
The M5 is most of its times faster on accelerations in comparisons with the CLS55 AMG and the E55 AMG just because of it's 7 speed gearbox advantage. AMG was lacking behind with its 5 speed gearbox. But since they now have a 7 speed gearbox as well I really really wonder how it'll compare now.
Concerning the handling I somehow still think the M5 is the better car though.
But if AMG approached their cars just like the way they did to the SLK55 AMG, that would great.

Personally I think the reason for not having the full 514 HP is because it would be too fast, faster than the more premium models of Mercedes like the CLS, SL for example. Mercedes customers don't want that kind of thing happen when they purchase a more expensive car than the CLK and get beaten by it on a straight line.
Now matter which generation, the CLK is always behind in poweroutput in comparison with the likes of CLS and SL.

(ok so a Porsche is a Porsche, don't get me wrong, and I love it.. but the new top 911 just got equalled by a whole slew of Mercedes?)
I just hope the handling will at least be sufficient for the celebrations about the engine to continue. |
AMG did a good job on the SLK55 AMG, hopefully they applied the same approach to the CLK, CLS and in the future AMG's.
