a c-class coupe is exactly what the CLK is.
The CLS is the E-class coupe as they share all the mechanicals. But again, Mercedes does not call it a 'CLE', because they want people to associate the "S" in the CLS with the S-class so that they can justify its price.
Much like the C-class "Sportscoupe" is not a coupe but a 3-door hatchback.
Sorry but you're just a victim of Merc's marketing "geniouses". | It's sad how vile this forum is becoming.
Two things:
1) Asking 'why isn't there a C-class coupe then?' is fallacious to the nth degree. You might as well have said 20 years ago "Why isn't there a 190 coupe? Because the SEC is it."
2) There's no causal connection between the nomenclature of BMW and that of Mercedes. Much less between what either of their cars are based on.
The CLS name means 'Comfort Light Sport' or 'Coupe Light Sport.' You might want to check out Mercedes' naming heritage
As I've said before, and I'll say it again, 'percentage-wise' the CLK is neither E-class nor C-class. Its designation, or recognition of it as an E-class coupe, comes purely from where it falls within the range of Mercedes' cars, its price and what it's intended to be. Pure and simple. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to modena_360stradale For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor

I don't get this CLK debate. The CLK is a coupe based on the C, priced like an E. End of story. The last real E-Class Coupe was the C124 of 1995. The CLK isn't just a C-Class coupe either, its own model that pulls mechanicals from the C and styling/features from the E. I don't see what is so hard to get about that.

But the CS is based on the 360 Modena anyway. The same with the CLK is based on the C-class. | This was irrelevant. If you want to sling mud, go chat on yahoo
The Challenge Stradale is a 360 Modena. It's modified and lightened. The CLK is hardly a modified or lightened C-class. It mixes components of the E-class and C-class ranges. Is it therefore an EC class Mercedes?
Hardly.

M | Thank you. As I've said all along: it isn't a C-class coupe. Based on engines, styling, pricing, etc. etc. yadda yadda (as said in the first post on this page) it can be considered an E-class coupe, or at the very least, its range companion.

The thing is will they call it a "Vision" concept or a something else. If it is called Vision then it is headed to production. Either way if the above is true we'll see the CLK first I think.

So as suspected im guessing no clk and e debuts . But hey, aparently the 'vision' concept will show very similar exterior and interior semblances to the new E and CLK front and interior styling so should be good to see
Oh... on a sidenote, 360 stradale its all good bro, this site isnt necessarily getting VILE just cos people disagree with your opinions | | | | | Member

M | That also concerns me:almost every concept, except for F ones, was badged Vision. I personally don't see why Merc wouldn't call this CLK in the same way, and I really don't have a problem if the car enters series production. | | | | | Devotee

Scott said that he saw the text "Vision" on the car: Quote:

Hmmm, it still looks rather toylike and too cute in some of the latest photos, kind of like the current model.
I was expecting something a little more mature looking this time around.
Camo coming off pretty quick. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
