Should Mercedes make an AMG version of the CLC? -
07-13-2008, 10:09 AM
Call me crazy, but I think they should. I was thinking something like a CLC 55 AMG.
Rear-wheel-drive hatchback, sonorous 5.4 V8 under the bonnet... sounds fun!
It wouldn't too be difficult to make it; hence the CLC is essentially an old C-Class Sportcoupé with the new C-Class front-end tacked on and Mercedes still use the old 5.4 non-supercharged V8 in the SLK 55 AMG.
No really, if Mercedes-Benz made an AMG version of that overpriced minivan they should never made it in the first place, they definitely should make an AMG version of the CLC. Perhaps even a Black Series edition afterwards.
Just sack the department that gave green light to make the R63 AMG and claims my idea of an AMG-ed CLC is stupid; Send the CLC to the AMG boffins in Affalterbach and tell them to make the hottest hot-hatch ever.

Absolutely NOT. This car is already a disgrace no need to ruin AMG's name too. AMG is just now getting itself back to where it needs to be after the R63 and other mishaps like that diesel, so NO.

It wouldn't sell well in the first place and there is more to adding a 5.5-l V8 under the hood of the CLC. You'd have to invest money into suspension engineering and tuning, perhaps a new cooling system that will fit under the hood of the CLC etc.
Mercedes offered a limited number of C32 AMG Sportcoupes on an on-order-only basis. Needless to say very few were ordered and produced because there simply isn't a profitable market for this kind of car. Why not simply go for a C32 AMG sedan or estate in the first place? Same performance and more interior space and practicality.
