THEY ARE.
The CLC is a
stop-gap model designed to fill a role for a short period only.
The C-Class itself doesn't compete with the BMW 1-Series or Audi A3, it competes with the 3er and A4, hence the CLC would compete with the discontinued
BMW 3er Compact and a theoretical Audi A4 Sportcoupe.
Mercedes is apparently working on an A- and B-Class Coupe, which will be the true competitors to the 1-Series and A3. The CLC, as mentioned earlier, is a gap-filler designed to please the market for the moment.
