I think we have that version. It works alright I suppose. Only "flaw" I can think of is that it sometimes takes a second to change gears under heavy acceleration (hitting the rev limiter at 6k rpm). Its basically my mom's car, but I use it to get to school about everyday. It works quite brilliantly under all conditions, and seems to be pretty economical as well. It takes me about a month before I have to refill. And I only drive short stop and go distances.

Perhaps I didn't know about this because the transmission was a flop and didn't sell well and was soon removed from the C-Class models. I suspect that at the same time it was removed from the W168 A-Classes as well, hence I never knew about this.

I've driven a C230 Kompressor Sportcoupe before with this transmission. I didn't really have a problem with it and it worked nicely enough. You could select your own gears without depressing the clutch pedal or you could leave it in "D"rive mode (automatic).
No, no it's not the Sequentronic. The SQTN is a sequantial transmission, with +/- and auto function.

On the first gen A-Class it worked exactly like a manual, only without clutch pedal. You shifted like in a manual, 1st, 2,d etc..., you had a grille like a manual. Not only + and -, you had the five speeds. Like a manual.

You had no auto function, because you had to put the level on the right gear. It really was a manual, only with an electrical motor for the clutch. And that's all. No motor for the shifting.

Ok this is confusing.

I honestly don't know what transmission you guys are talking about for the A-Class. The W203/CL203 C-Classes had the Sequentronic option. I was assuming the W168 A-Class might have gotten it too, especially based on the comments here.

Now I am totally confused.

Re: ***Testdrove a 2008 Mercedes-Benz B200 with Sport Package***

Well it is very hard to find any info about it. Very rare stuff.
Called ACS (Automatic Clutch System) and is basically an hydraulic clutch actuator.

You have a normal gearbox with an H-pattern and a conventional gearlevel, and a sensor in the gearlevel senses when you push it and disengages the clutch whereas you are shifting, and reengages it when the gear is engaged.
You have the 5 speeds, contrary to others semi-automatic gearboxes, meaning that you can engage the gear you want. You can start in 2nd, or downshift from 5 to 3...because you have the H-pattern like a normal gearbox.

It really only is an electrically actionated clutch, nothing more.

I don't know how it works at iddle, to start. I think it reengages the clutch when you hit the throttle to start.

I test drove the A-Class in 99 with my parents-in-laws, that transmission was very weird. Each time I shifted gears my left leg would do the clutch motion, hitting the brakes very hard. Very unpleasant, didn't like the concept one bit.
