It does has a tremendous torque through all the rpm curve but it does not has as much torque as the old 55 Kompressor engine produced.
The huge torque in the 55 Kompressor engine is already available in lower rpm's because of the kompressor, while the in 63 engine you have to rev it higher to get the same amount of torque.
Torque is what you need for a smooth and effortless acceleration and drive/cruising especially in a heavy car like the CL-class.
Having a the n/a 63 engine in the CL would eventually result being a slower car than when having a 55 Kompressor engine.
Also the CL-class is a heavier and more premium car than the E/CLS class, so it goes without saying that it has to outperform or at least equal to the E/CLS-class in terms of acceleration.
