Well it certainly lacks charm ....that goes without saying ...but more than that, it lacks imagination. It clearly is well made, I have no problems with it there, but like the S class, this interior is soulless -- characterless.
Also, I don't agree that the Mercedes interior is so very very modern compared to the Bentley ...this is an assumption that some of you make without actually looking at the interiors first ...the Bentley is not exactly antique looking...the details are much more sophisticated and high-tech looking than the big clump of mass-produced woodwork on the center console of the Mercedes.

My opinion: Bentley
Typical British car.
British means antique, Queen Elizabeth, hunting foxes, cup of thee, cricket, a sigar, a high hat with a specially crafted walking stick and last but not least heritage.
Which means by British taste/preference in cars, using alot of wood and chrome, in short a classy car, interior and exterior wise. It has British heritage to live up to.
Aside of that, Bentley has a name to live up to as well, it comes second to Rolls Royce, which means exclusiveness.
It's their style to make it British and it looks fantastic in my opinion.
Plus Bentley is not much of a massive production car like Mercedes, only one engine available, car is custom made. Also the prices tells the differ. Mercedes (BMW and Audi as well)
German means strictness, perfection, beer, engineering, quality, hi-tech.
Mercedes is a mass production car, a sub exotic, also a cheaper car than the Bentley, it's the best you can get for its price in terms of quality and performance in the premium class.
As you can see in the interior of the new CL-class, it's a mix between modern age and classiness. Still keeping advancing in modern technologies while still combining it with classiness. It's slightly less classy as the Bentley but still fantastic.
It's like a classy lawyers office with a flat screen on the wall and a tft-monitor on its desk instead of a pencil and ink.
Both different in approach in designs, different brand philosophy in designs.
Let's keep it at that.
Both brands are able to create any interiors they would like but the designs has to match with the brand philosophy which are conditions for designing.
They are great in their own way. | | | | | Trendsetter

They are great in their own way. | I agree with what you are saying here Alwing ...but BMW are still far more imaginative than Mercedes ...the issue I am having with the Benz's interior is that it is so underwhelming ..it just seems out of character with the rest of the vehicle. | | | | | Advocate

sorry for the misleading statement. | Roberto you must always remember that Mercedes is about slow evolution, bringing the familar up to date with some new touches. The last time Mercedes shifted directions interior wise was from the W140 to the W220, they went from cold and stern to soft and supple so don't expect another change for at least another generation of S-Class, the W221 and the new Coupe (C221?) are just a evolution of the theories behind the W220 models. BMW on the other hand threw out their whole rule book with the 2002 7-Series, Mercedes isn't apt to do that very often, if ever.

M | That is true ..I will admit it ......it is just another reason that urged me to make a decision.
I have become too argumentative, too impatient, and easily irritated lately. My posts have become increasingly shallow and pointless.
I think some self control is necessary
So to ensure that this forum remains at the high standard we all enjoy, I have decided to drastically cut down the amount of posting I make here. | | | | | Connoisseur
