I'm not griping that the new CL isn't loud or dramatic enough; in fact I'm of the mind that it may be a scoach too loud and brawny. What I'm griping about is the lack of fresh "invented at Benz" details that defined these cars in the late 90s. | Yeah well, what can I say ...we both know Mercedes has been through a very tumultuous period and it's corporate image has been quite uncertain -- there has been a distinct lack of direction for a few years now. We both know that Mercedes is taking it's lead from BMW here. BMW really scared the shit out of Mercedes with the success of the 7er -- Mercedes know that the bold styling of the 7er along with their own technical and reliability issues meant they had to change tact a little with the new flagship models -- they have employed some of the same aggressive styling elements as BMW but have endeavored to retain their traditional restrained plutocratic image ....that is not an easy thing to do.
Anybody who has read my posts over the past two years knows that I have been a very harsh critic of Mercedes-Benz ....I'm still not crazy about the S ...but it is selling well which only goes to show that DCX have done their market research well. I feel this new CL will also be very well received by it's intended market ....and surely, in the end, that is what keeps DCX's, all important, shareholders happy. | | | | | Global Moderator

When the SLK debuted I was convinced I'd grow to like the rear lights, especially since there were some interesting detail lines crossing the boot. Now some time has passed and the look still teeters on cheap in my view.
Where's the bite? Where are the lines that signal to the world "I'm exclusive, damnit."
I credit the rear lights of the CL for tying in the blinker(?) area with the body line. My compliments end there. The rest of the unit is "just there" with all drama and flair of an Acura RL. The W221 S-Klasse has got some rather neat rear lights. I don't see why the CL, the extravagance that it is, isn't in league with that. | Well yes, I don't disagree with you really on any of this ...Osna, you know I'm not some blinkered "Benz fanboy", but I will give credit where it is due -- the CL may not be a thrill-a-minute but in reality, it's not really supposed to be.
Bland? ...well I think that's a bit harsh, I do think this new car does look exclusive and tasteful ...and that is exactly what potential buyers will respond to. | | | | | Me for President

This is a moment I have been waiting for, for a long time, as the current CL is one of my favourites and is definately the most elegant car on the road today. I'm loving the front, it is quite tank-like, like the 2-generations old CL.
The rear may draw similiarties with the SLK, but for whatever reason, from being the very best aspect of the SLK's desgin, it becomes the worst part of the CL's design IMO. It is fussy, with all the converging creases and shutlines that are not resolved well IMO. The lights are too wide and amorphous and the crease above the bumper makes it seem saggy IMO. Obviously this could be solved with the AMG bumper, but until then I will remain sceptical. Overall I give it a 7/10. | | | | | Global Moderator

If everyone's opinion is expressed in a proper way i don't see any problem with that.

I'm very keen to see the interior. | Yes, I do mean that. Well, I certainly hope so. If they show some pictures of these lighted up then I'll get a clearer impression. | | | | | Expert

Anyway let's move on. | Some how I'm with Roberto on this one. With alost a million car models out there it is no secret that some cars resembles others and therefore it really isn't any point posting several pictures of car which have the "same" head or tail lights.
It is a bit too early to tell wether it is the same design success as the current CL. I have to see many more pictures of it and even see it in the metal. | | | | | Expert

and i love it so im happy.. | There were also alot of whining when the first S-class pictures had leaked out. Tons of bull shit were spit on blog and in forums all over the net. Many people called it korean, 7er wannabe and lot of other none sense were said about. But after looking at several other pictures the car actually looked very good.
I'm sure opinions will take a turn when there are more pictures of the CL. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
