CL-Class Facelift (Spy Photos & info)

In addition to the S-Class facelift Mercedes-Benz is working on the facelift for the CL-Class.

As with the S-Class the changes are quit minor. The front lights have a new form that has some design cues from the new SL. Also the blinkers are new and Mercedes will be using LED lights on the facelifted CL-Class in a similar way “around” the light like on Audi A4. Rear lights will also get LEDs.

Re: CL-Class Facelift (Spy Photos & info)

What the CL really needs is more sharpness in the front area. It's just too soft and for this it doesn't fit to the reast of the car which is sharply drawn. it seems like the front and the rear were designed by different departments.
This is the biggest weakness in the CL's design right now.
looks also like the CL is getting whole new headlights and not just a new innerlife. Do I see a slight L-shape there?

Re: CL-Class Facelift (Spy Photos & info)

The current C216 Mercedes-Benz CL was first introduced at the end of 2006 and didn’t appear in most markets until early the next year, however, engineers are already hard at work testing prototypes for an updated version of the car. Given the lack of modifications to the exterior of this prototype, it’s still too early to confirm if Mercedes is planning a full facelift or only a serious of slight styling changes.

The test vehicle seen here is sporting a new set of headlights, with the indicators moved to the outer corners and what appears to be a row of led daytime running lights positioned at the base of the light. The shots of the rear also reveal some camouflage material over the trunk panel. While the taillamps and muffler design remain unchanged, the camo gear suggests a revised trunklid with new character lines could be included in the upgrade.

Mercedes is unlikely to change the CL’s powertrain lineup so early in its product cycle. This means that the current CL500/550, CL600, CL63 and CL65 models will still fill out the range. However, there could be a number of modifications to the exhaust filtering systems to help improve emissions.

The S-Class sedan - on which the CL is based - is also due for a facelift, with a number of prototypes already spotted testing in Germany. Like the CL, the changes in store for the S-Class are minor, with the only noticeable differences being a slighted revised grille and bumper design as well as a set of new headlights.

S and CL AMG facelifts photos

We originally thought that these photos were virtually meaningless, but not according to our colleagues at eMercedesBenz.com . While we were concentrating on shooting the Gull-Wing SL homage super car, we apparently stumbled right into the middle of a final test session of what are apparently AMG versions of the S- and CL-Classes, due for a mid-cycle refresh for 2009.

Obviously the modifications here are evolutionary from the current S63. The changes are confined mostly to the front fascia; probably additional ducting to the massive brakes, a key feature on any AMG upgrade. We expect that any running-gear changes incorporated on the mainstream S- and CL-Class models will be included on the AMG derivatives.

Judging by the fact that both cars were almost devoid of detail-concealing camouflage, we assume that the PR team in Stuttgart is preparing the press kits for both cars' unveiling later this fall at the Paris Auto Show as we speak.

So BMW 7 Series release and Mercedes Benz S Class Facelift release at the same show. Paris must be licking their lips.

Talk about a clash of the titans...

Re: S and CL AMG facelifts photos

All I know, situation is different for BMW than when the E65 was released. Then, the competing S Class was "meager" competition in many respects, and the new BMW flagship made it look positively midsize, not to mention the interior. The new Beemer flagship is greeted by a far more able foe, not having broken a sweat in its first iteration, and getting a new FL to boot.

I just hope the reason these AMG's are out and about is the new 7-speed hooked up newly to the S65.

LOL, hilarious.

Yeah I don't know why they think this fall either. At best these will be shown at Geneva next year or even at some non-autoshow unveiling.
