Apparently some spy photographer saw the driver filling the car with diesel and heard the sound of it. No doubt it's a diesel engine.

According to new reports from Germany’s AutoSTR, power from the Audi V6 will be boosted to around 320hp (238kW) from the current 240hp (179kW) levels. More powerful V8 diesels have reportedly been ruled out due to weight issues and subsequent handling compromises.

Porsche’s new diesel is expected to achieve a fuel-consumption rating of 23mpg (9.9L/100km), which should help improve the carmaker’s carbon footprint and allow the car to be registered in lower tax brackets in countries where registration taxes are based on emissions.

At the same time Porsche is also working on a new hybrid powertrain featuring an electric motor matched to s petrol V6. The new engine will develop a peak output of 240hp (179kW) and Porsche is expected to produce up to 15,000 diesel Cayennes annually, with prices to start at €55,000 (approximately $85,000). According to Automotive News Europe, the diesel Cayenne was originally scheduled to be launched in January but was pushed back so it wouldn’t coincide with the introduction of the facelifted Boxster.

I really don't think this is a good marketing strategy at all. The sales of diesel cars in Europe has stopped it's rise and due to the high prizes for petrol and diesel, the advantage of bying a diesel car is almost gone. It's only good if you do lots of miles, since a diesel car is more expensive (a Cayenne IS expensive no matter what engine so that argument might be invalid here). But come on a diesel in a porsche, I already think the idea of a porsche SUV was ridiculous, now they really hit the jackpot . I'd have to say no thanks!
