Thanks for the reply. If you have the source for the production numbers, that would be great.
Production numbers are occasionally published in Excellence, usually in the market reviews, and I have seen some in Panorama. If you call PCNA in Atlanta, they will tell you the numbers for a particular car too. Excellence Was Expected is also a good source for production numbers. There are also many buyer's guides and model specific books out there.

The 930's were real exciting because the rush of the turbo was such a new sensation. They are a classic supercar, but if you weren't there to experience them new (really up through say 1989) you will be disappointed because they are not that exciting by today's standards. The 3.3 feels downright slow in stock form up until 4500 rpm then its about 1500 rpm of excitement before its time to shift. The thing is all the other cars in its day were so bad and now there are so many good cars out there.

Thanks, I will be on the lookout since I have just subscribed to the above two magazines. I also just ordered Excellence Was Expected (and another book) from Amazon. Damn, the discounted price was almost $164.

I never did drive them at the time. I also have not driven a stock 930 Turbo so don't know how that feels. My guess is that from the point of view of power, maybe like the Cayman today? Of course I do have a RUF modded 1989 930 Turbo now, and without any prior experience, other than a 993 TT test drive a few years ago, the performance I have available to me now (400+ bhp) is quite enough for me. I am thoroughly enjoying cleaning out that wastegate every time I drive. Driving enjoyment just got an entirely new meaning to me. In fact I feel that the 993TT experience was equitable to what I have now.
400+ bhp may not be all that much by today's standards, but reading folks modding their 930s to be sometimes up to 700+ bhp, and most people to about 550 bhp with their CIS to EFI conversions and hybrid turbo upgrades etc., is just something I don't think I could handle. Too much is too much. 400+ with a car weighing less than 3000 lbs is plenty for me. Especially since these cars don't drive like the Ms and the AMGs, which feel totally safe.

That's one great attraction with these cars. No car is a good investment, there are better investment vehicles. But if you want to get a car that holds its' value, or even goes up, then the older Porsches are positively one a the few marques that can do that. But it also depends on your target market that you select.
