Following our earlier release reporting yesterday’s accident - As a sign of respect we have decided that this year’s Gumball 3000 Rally will not travel any further and will end in Bratislava this evening, May 3rd 2007.
As the organisers of the rally we feel that it should be stopped as a mark of respect to Vladimir Cepulyoski who died today after an accident involving one the participating drivers.
We are very saddened by what has happened and feel that it would be wrong to continue. On behalf of Gumball 3000, we once again extend our deepest sympathies to his family and we are doing everything we can for them.
This is the first time anything like this has happened in 9 years of travelling through over 40 countries with 1000’s of drivers and it is with deep regret that I make this announcement.

When will people learn that the Gumball is not a race... it's a rally! Any decisions to speed and go fast are the driver's and the driver's alone... the Gumball as an entity does not say "SPEED AND DRIVE RECKLESSLY!" Max works very closely with governments and boards of tourism to make this work. It's actually quite cultural, if you know a lot about it. But as Team 2CV from a few years ago will tell you, this is not a race. There is no prize for first place... the prizes are for the Spirit of the Gumball, not for who is fastest. All the standings you see are online only, they are not official or supported by the Gumball at all.

That being said, there is no excuse for causing the death of another person. That was wreckless of the drivers, and canceling the Gumball this year is the right and respectful thing to do. However, it shouldn't be stopped forever, in my opinion. Maybe this will slow some of the stupid drivers down and remind them that this isn't a race, it's a rally, or even a traveling parade of rare and exotic cars sometimes. But do not forget that there are innocents involved. Let the Gumball go on, just add a few more guidelines. Or make is so people can be removed from the Gumball if they do stupid things, even if it's just driving really fast where they're not supposed to.

This is very sad news for the affected people and Gumball as a whole. This could possibly mean the end of it which i would hate because where ever it goes it attracks huge crowds of supporters. Sure some people well sorry most people speed durring it but im sure that they do it on there own in their exotics. I just think that it will be harder for governments to allow this rally now in the country.
