This doesn't sound right to me, there's no way MB would make a C550, no matter how power crazy they were, I just can't see it! It's like them making an E600, it's never going to happen!
Plus I'm pretty sure a C63 will happen, though it will be de-tuned for the C class!
I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens!
An American magazine far far away, or a German magazine who's headquarters are in Stuttgart (Auto Motor und Sport)?
There will be a C63 AMG for sure. MB is moving away from forced induction in their smaller cars, hence it is only to logical that they'll use the 6.2 V8, which will easily fit into the new C-Class. The current C-Class in C55 AMG form has to use the CLK front so the V8 can fit.

Exactly. Mercedes if anything will do something to get the C350 to the 300hp mark, but there won't be a C550. To expensive for a non-AMG model. No way there will be a C55 with the old supercharged engine. MT is just way, way off.
Interestingly, Motor Trend is still saying there will be a C550 even though they've updated their site with the offical pics and information from the launch:
Love this shot!
For the U.S., expect the engine range to be the C280 V-6 (228 horsepower), C350 V-6 (268 horsepower) and the C550 V-8 (380 horsepower), all with the automaker's seven-speed automatic.
They might be building the C550 to combat the upcoming 335si....especially those who think the horse power gap between the AMG version and C350 is to far apart.

I can't see it though. For all the hp the C550 would have it would also gain some weight and likely become nose-heavy and very expensive. I doubt there will be a V8 in any C but the AMG model.
