Mercedes is plotting an even mightier version of the C-Class 55 AMG, if reports are to be believed. A prototype packing AMG's new 6.3-litre V8 with 510bhp and 465lb-ft of torque -- compared to the standard car's 367bhp and 376lb-ft -- has been reported in Autocar.

Aimed straight at the upcoming BMW M3 and Audi RS4, the car won't produced in volume, says the report. Instead, it'll be made in a limited run for 'a preferred set of customers'. Compared to the standard car, pictured above, it'll gain width at the rear with a widened track by using the rear axle from the DTM (German touring car), plus additional cooling vents at the front for that monster motor.

The standard C-Class 55 AMG costs 48,765GBP, while the RS4 is priced at 49,980GBP. The bill for the new prototype seems likely to be a tad more.

Lol AMG really feel the pressure from M and RS
but limited edition, sounds expensive if its true. I might rather choose E55 over this one cause C-class isnt pretty.

Ofcourse they feel presure..thats the good thing with competition.. it drives companys to new heights.. and this is a damn height.. remember now the M5 has 507hp--NA... and this will have 510hp NA.. should be pretty damn fast..

I would rather wish that it was a mule for an AMG version of the next generation C-class. Why spend more effort on tarting up this old car with the new engine? Like the debut of the new 5.5L V8 in the W221 S-class (and not the ML), and whatever engine the next M3 is going to have (instead of in the Z4 M), save it for where it will have the most impact.

I also think the C-class isn't exactly pretty. It'd be like dressing mutton up to look like lamb, as the saying goes.

but still E55 would be nicer... if it happens which we dont know for sure.

It seems more a M3 CSL competitor than a regular M3, if true.

I remember the stories about E65 and CLS65 when we saw similar photos like this one. Everyone thought it was a E/CLS-class with 65 engine. See what happen about that - absolutly nothing. Probably the same case here.

perhaps a mule for the next c-class....perhaps a small production! For sure the c class is getting old....but still looks good IMO
