So they take a engine that is good for 500 or so HP, detune it to 457 hp and then charge you give it 30 of those horses back? They should have instead given the +30 hp to the C350 instead.

Very nice!

Only thing missing on this car is a little more exciting leather options... red would be nice.

I know how you feel short-changed by AMG. But the difference between the horsepower output of the C63 and the SL63 is due to the routing of the exhaust pipes underneath the car. Or so I'm told.

I thought AMG should have done the right thing and threw the MCT gearbox into the package.

I have some suspicions that the naturally aspirated V8 6.2L engine will not be with us for much longer. Maybe 18 months or so before being replaced by the new 5.5L Twin-Turbo V8 engine and possibly with a new transmission.

If the difference was 10hp, I would believe that. The difference between a free flowing exhaust and a more restrictive one is not 50+ HP (unless we are talking about removing cats and mufflers and everything and even then I doubt there is 50HP to be gained just from the exhaust).

I think it is marketing thing, they didn't want a 50k car to have the same HP as a 100k car especially given that the 50k car would end up being faster as it would be lighter.

Dissapointed that no one noticed it's actually a new engine, a hybrid between the M156 and M159. It's even 3 kilos lighter.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Performance Package Plus Is Bound for U.S.

AFFALTERBACH, Germany — Mercedes-Benz USA has confirmed for Inside Line that the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Performance Package Plus, which boosts output by 30 horsepower, is bound for the U.S. early in 2010, but pricing on the optional package has not yet been finalized.

"Yes," responded Mercedes-Benz USA spokesman Rob Moran in an e-mailed message when asked about U.S. plans for the package. "We'll likely adapt the engine modifications as part of the existing P30 package for the C63. Expect this early next year. Sorry, but a price has not been finalized."

The package will be launched in December in Europe. Pricing for the sedan and wagon models in that market ranges from the U.S. equivalent of approximately $9,629-$10,609.

Mercedes-Benz says the package is aimed at the "power hungry" driver.

The power boost is due to the 6.3-liter V8 engine's modified engine compartment, said the automaker in a statement. The modifications include forged pistons adopted from the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The tweaks boost output by 30 horsepower to 487 hp for both sedan and wagon models. With the addition of the package, the C63 AMG sprints from zero to 60 mph in less than 4.4 seconds, beating the standard 457-hp model by up to 1.2 seconds, said Mercedes-Benz. Other details include an AMG high-performance braking system and an AMG performance steering wheel.

Inside Line says: Mercedes-Benz has massaged this almost to the point of being a "Black" series, but not quite. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
