...is the HP war over?

The market is putting a lot of pressure on manufacturers to produce greener, more fuel efficient vehicles -- that is a much larger market in these uncertain times.

Getting your brand new model flogged by the competition in every comparo isn't nearly inline with the "program". Sales figures are irrelevant to what I'm talking about here. The C350 is underpowered relative to the competition and on paper. Also taking away something like memory seats in a Benz is unforgiveable. Thankfully for 2009 they're adding them back. People buying the 2008 C-Class (here in the U.S) are buying a 3/4 baked car.

I agree. The C350 needs a new engine for the sake of looking good on paper, in the minds of potential buyers and of course from a performance perspective.

Still, it's pretty amazing that the "weakest" car in this class still has some amazing numbers in terms of performance. All hail the 7Gtronic!

I know what you're getting at. This stuff should be standard on luxury cars. In Europe not many people order it.

funny thing is in Europe BMW 330i has 272hp just like C350

Ha ha ha ha... i wouldn't put it quite dat bad Marcus. lol. But ye i know wat u mean. I think MB (much like with d S class) really just concentrated on quality and reliability. With d new diesels and i'm sure after that petrols this C's gonna rock. Also expect new tech with d f/lift. I think this C will really stand the test of time.

And on a sidenote, considering how long (suprising) MB have left the BMW twin turbo 3.0 unchallenged who thinks they'll do the same with the 7er upcoming brand new (and hott!) V8? That will rock the S class's cred! lol. They better not
