Not likely. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Audi's generally dont ride well on Australian road. BMW suffers similarly, though both marques are getting better in this regard.

Re: Wheels Car of the Year: Mercedes Benz C Class - 01-22-2008, 05:48 AM

I saw one parked outside the hospital today. Had sports package and a very clean and shiny black (obviously very new) and looked sensational parked next to all the old cars surrounding it. As luck would have it a reletively new 335i parked in behind it and I must say, apart from having a better looking side profile, the 3 Series design is killed by the C Class. I was very impressed with the car!

I like how the black colour of the car combines the significent chrome detailing to create a very vivid and striking design. It just screams mercedes benz and luxury all over. The only thing I don't completely like is the side line that almost drops. It's nice but doesn't compare to BMW's wedge like side profile line. The BMW looks more cleaner, elegent and at the same time more dynamic with this line then the Mercedes.

A worthy winner however in my books.

@ monster - Thats garbage IMO. The commodore was penned in for COTY ever since it was released by holden. With sales leaving large family cars in Australia, Wheels had to do something to help. The most biased part of that car of the year was he quote about the S Class wheel arches been pumped, ridicolous and out of date. The commodore has even greater pumped wheel aches that make the car look like a koala from the front.

I stopped buying Wheels after that issue. I was sick of constently reading baised reviews favouring Austalian made vehicles over anything.

I’m actually surprised the Mondeo didn’t take the title since so many euro mags proclaim its superior to both the C and 3-series.
I think in this current fashion trend of being environmentally friendly, voting the M3 as car of the year will be bombarded by those environmental extremists.

Wheels award their prize for the entire range of that car, so every single model needs to be competitive, and I guess that is why the Mondeo lost to the C-class.

I agree with you, that is why I said if the Commodore wasn't there last year the S-class would have won. There is just no way Wheels will pick the most expensive car over a locally made, biggest selling car with a strong and passionate following.

As for their comment about the S-class, I just ignore it because it is impossible to be objective when judging a car design.

I just realised the Lexus LS460 and the LS600 didn't even make it into the top 6 finalist, and the LS was voted world car of the year.

Re: Wheels Car of the Year: Mercedes Benz C Class - 01-22-2008, 11:15 AM

A pleasant surprise, like some of you have already said.

Having just driven another C-Class (estate this time), I quite like the car and I think my reviews have stated that it is a great all-round car as it finds a nice blend between comfort and sport that manages to satisfy the folks looking for comfort and the kean drivers too.

They have a W221 S320 CDI up at the dealer and I am dying to take that baby for a spin. Presently I only have driven the W221 S550 and the W220 S320 and S320 CDI.

I think Wheels car of the year can no longer be considered credible - Not to say the C Class doesnt deserve the gong. just from some of the prestine vehicles that have missed out!!!
