but it answers the question.. the engines are pretty similar in weight
give and take some kg ..
so no need to discuss engine weight any further..
not a thing that can be held agains ANY of the 2 brands in this case..
especially AMG with a 6.3l engine
I have a tough time believing that the engines have similar weight - nothing to do with one engine being M and the other AMG, but with one being a 4L and the other being 6.3L with almost 50% more torque. It is just physics that the engine with more torque will need heavier parts to with stand the torque. Also the engine that revs higher usually needs to have lighter moving parts in order to do so.

So I highly doubt the 202kg vs 199kg comparison with out knowing for definite what is included in that weight - like fuel pump, oil pumps, oil, radiator, coolant, alternator, ECU.. etc. Unfortunately I doubt if we will ever know this for sure (unless some private owners are ready to take the engine out and weight it).

This is not to say the AMG engine is a pig or anything, I am sure it is a light engine for its capacity, but I doubt if it weighs as light as a 4L engine.

They seem to follow the character line (they are placed the same distance above the character line).

I think what makes them look odd is the organic shape of the door handle recess juxtaposed with the sharp angular lines of the rest of the vehicle.

What I find particular strange is the placement of the rear door handles, why are they so far forward?

Re: Official C63 AMG

^^ The seats and the flat bottom steering wheel was a major surprise for me. I didn't expect Benz/AMG to put those in. I guess if you are lucky enough to own one of these, you want want to seat in something that's different from the standard C-Class.

Interesting. That doesn't seem to bother me that much though. What does bother me is the fact that the front ones are more skew than the rear ones. They are about the same distance from the lines, but the angles are totally different. It can just be the picture though

I am sure with clever engineering design and advance material selection, the engineers have kept the engine parts as light as possible.

Well it is true that the higher revving engines need to have lighter moving parts, but since F=ma the lighter mass is offset by higher acceleration experienced by that engine component. In an engine with high torque, less rev, the extra mass of the engine part is offest by the lower acceleration of that part. So the final force on the moving parts might be similar, and the moving parts might be of similar weight. That is what i think anyway, hope this make sense.

Engines with more torque needs stronger parts and generally it means heavier parts because the materials are thicker, but thanks to advance software and modelling programs, the engineers will know where to increase and decrease the thickness of each part so the engine will be as light but as durable as possible. So it is not surprising to know that the BMW engine and the AMG engine have a very similar weight.

Re: Official C63 AMG

Why is there no videos out yet? Carmags has already driven the car but still no videos. There is already a video on th M3 on CAR webpage but the testdrives wont be officially until tomorrow. So why no C63 videos ?
