A job you'd be great at would be a car journalist, I'm sure a magazine would be interested in all the test drives you've done on the net! Or you could work for a Mercedes magazine if you can't face driving other cars!

BTW, how old do you need to be to take a car for a test drive. I'd love to drive a BMW or something, but thinking I'm way too young to even try!

I'd love to work as an automotive journalist and testdrive so many cars, but these guys usually have en engineering background. I don't have that.

I'm 24 but I basically know a couple of guys up at the dealership, especially since I had a summer job with them two years ago. I sometimes help the dealership out (like moving cars from A to B) and that's how I get to drive some of their cars. Also, I can just go up there and ask if I can drive this or that etc.

Dude, I think most of them don't! Your knowledge about the engine, transmission and all that of all cars (especially Benzes) is already more than sufficient if you ask me!

Only if you take it to the track, then maybe you'd need some engineering stuff.

That's interesting, this summer I intend to get some work experience at a dealership, hopefully BMW, because it will be useful for applying to university due to me wanting to study automotive engineering. Have you got any tips of what I should say to get a work placement?

Just tell them you're passionate about cars and you're here to learn a bit about the business, especially about your favorite brand. That's what I did and they took me in. Although in my small town, many people know I am a Mercedes fan so I guess that helped.

Do emphasize that you're a car fanatic. That's one of the main things they look for!

I was thinking of going around right after the M3 came out, to show I know what I was talking about but ran out of time. Although another possible entry, is my Mum is a Dentist, and one of her patients said he worked for Jaguar, and if there was a favour he could do for her, he would. I could settle for Jaguar, it's only just down the road from BMW!

Seriously though, that's great. Connections are always good. I would ask this guy what he thinks your chances are of getting a summer job or an internship with a car dealership. If he's nice, he'll tell you that you could start over at his Jaguar dealership.
