Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

This is a discussion on Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)? within the C-Class forums, part of the Mercedes-Benz category; I just wish VW would offer that V6 in the Eos/Jetta/Rabbit cars instead of the ancient 3.2L V6. The A6 ...

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

I just wish VW would offer that V6 in the Eos/Jetta/Rabbit cars instead of the ancient 3.2L V6. The A6 could use this engine too, it is time for the 3.2L to go, IMO of course. I would fall out for a Jetta with 300hp combined with DSG!

Looks like you're on point Marcus. The Passat R36 does have an all new 3.6 V6 w/ 300hp engine. They've been low key about this engine amazingly.

Doesn't say in the article. My guess is probably late 2007 or in 2008.

My guess is that it's a typo and is supposed to read 5 seconds.

I think that report about a SL350 with a 324hp turbo 3.5L V6 makes more sense and that will be the engine in the C350 after the first model year for the W204 is complete. I can't see that much engine/power in a non-AMG C-Class. If a C400 is going to have 400hp and perform like that then the C63 is virtually pointless. I'll go on the record here as having said that this is no-go, won't happen. Mercedes will update their V6s next year, but 400hp, nah..more like 310-340hp.

I think this 4-l V6 is being constructed out of the 3.5-l V6. The article doesn't mention anything specific, just says that "MB is working on a 4.0 V6 Biturbo...". Fitting this baby into the W204 C-Class shouldn't be a problem IMO.

Also, I think the 4 second 0-100 km/h time is a typo. I am pretty sure they meant to write 5 seconds. I can see the C63 AMG doing 0-100 km/h in the low 4 seconds and there's no way a C400 4Matic Biturbo will outpeform the AMG variant, because then there would be no reason to buy the C63 AMG unless you want slightly better handling and sport feel.

True, true, but what happens if Mercedes decided to raise the horsepower bar in this class?

Lexus and BMW outpaced Mercedes with their 300-hp+ V6 motors, so maybe some leading product managers at Mercedes decided it was time to return the favor and instead of creating a 350-hp C-Class that could easily be matched by the competition, they go for a full 400-horsepower version. If the C400 Biturbo outperforms the BMW 335i and Lexus IS350, then it is these two that will need to play catch-up.

Whoever said competition was nice business?

BTW, what are the horsepower specs for the new Infiniti G37?

MB has already raised the bar in this segment: with CLK 500. Audi is following with S4, BMW won't offer a non-M V8 E92 in this class.

So ...

I guess C400 (if coming) won't be a competitor of 335i, IS350 etc, but a class above: kind-a-V8 top model (yet with bi-turbo V6 instead V8).

I would be very surprised if MB indeed came out with 400+HP C-class in the price range near 335i / IS350 & Co.

G37: it is rumoured 320 -330hp; some say exactly 324hp.

What about the 335si and the new V8 Bi-turbo engines from BMW?
