Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

What an interesting thread.....C400 with a bi-turbo 4.0L V6 and 4 matic?

If the HP estimates are true, then this car a big step above the current C350, 335i and into potential AMG/M/RS territory.

If this car goes into production, the only way I can see it make sense is if the new M3 will be priced significanly higher than the old M3. Which means the C63 will also be much more expensive than the old C55.....which leaves room for a non-AMG C-class to fill in the price range between the C350 and C63 AMG.

And there is no way they will make a non-AMG C-class outperform the AMG version.

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

I just can't see any of this being true. First of all 4L V6 is literally too big, the NVH would be truck-like and it would require Mercedes to really go to work on getting refinement out of it. Secondly, a 400hp non-AMG C-Class just doesn't make sense, IMO. I think that report about a SL350 with a 324hp turbo 3.5L V6 makes more sense and that will be the engine in the C350 after the first model year for the W204 is complete. I can't see that much engine/power in a non-AMG C-Class. If a C400 is going to have 400hp and perform like that then the C63 is virtually pointless. I'll go on the record here as having said that this is no-go, won't happen. Mercedes will update their V6s next year, but 400hp, nah..more like 310-340hp.

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

Well, no one thought BMW would be doing turbocharged engines again.... never say never.

A replacement for the VWAG corporate 3.2 V6 is long overdue, better bring it's A-game because the 3.0 Bi turbo from BMW has made tsunamis all over the press and enthusiast world.

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

I expect MB and Audi to fully answer the 300hp challenge BMW with their V6s, but not with 400hp. At least not yet, maybe in 2015 when the next generation of all these cars start coming around. I expect Audi and MB to do 310-340hp.

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

Yeh, 400hp is way pushing it. For the immediate future at least, pushing that far ahead would do away w/ the need to have an C63, just wouldn't make sense. I wonder if BMW's 3.0 Bi-turbo can be toppled?? It's a pretty magnificent engine, I do believe Audi has the know how and resources to make that happen.

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

I seem to remember Yannis going on about a naturally aspirated V6 from Audi, likely the same 3.6L in the Passat that makes 324hp. Mercedes will likely be in that range also. Can't wait to see what happens. The hp benchmarks are steadily climbing. 300hp used to be reserved for V8s!

Re: Mercedes-Benz C400 Biturbo (W204)?

I do know that the V6 in the R36 is tapped to make 300+, so that's a more than likely candidate for Audi if they don't plan on using turbo charging (rumors floating around on that too).
