The Porsche Boxster first appeared more than 10 years ago. At the time Porsche was just beginning to climb out of its financial woes, and hoping this mid-engine sports car would further its recovery. Since then, riding on additional model successes such as the Cayman and Cayenne, Porsche is now bigger than ever — impressively even taking a majority stake in Volkswagen. But resting on its laurels is never the Porsche way, as proven by the second-generation Boxster and Boxster S, the latter of which I drove recently at Willow Springs Raceway.

There are only a few exterior changes that set this Boxster apart from its predecessor. Up front, the new bumper houses wider side air intakes. New headlights incorporate directional indicators. LED lights above the air intakes take the place of the foglamps and double as daytime driving lights. Dynamic directional bi-Xenon headlamps are optional. At the rear, curvier styling gives the car a more aggressive stance. For the Boxster S, gone are the twin rectangular exhaust tips, replaced by a pair of more traditional round ones.

I used to think that the Boxster shape/design/style needed a radical change, that it had become too familiar, stale even...but in actuality it is still very attractive even becoming iconic like the 911. Ok Martin you were right.
