Re: Porsche Boxter to get 4 pot engine by 2011

A 4-pot engine in a Boxster or Cayman is no problem for me, if the motor is good enough. A 4-cylinder can be thrilling to drive.

Honestly, if the motor is sporty enough, I will have no problem at all with the fact that it is a 4-pot.

I have far more problems with the fat-looking 2.5t Cayenne, especially in VW-V6... And I won't say a word on the rumoured diesel-Cayenne, because THAT is shocking to me.

A light 4-pot Boxster could be just fantastic to drive!! I welcome this idea, in fact, it suits Porsche very well to enlighten a car and give it a relatively small but high-revving and aggressive engine!

It's a masterpiece from the only other boxer engine manufacturer in the automotive world.

But I think Martin prefers the J-Spec 2.0 WRX-Sti engine. Am I right?

Re: Porsche Boxter to get 4 pot engine by 2011

Spot on bmer!

The engine shown the the more globally relevant 2.5 litre turbo from the WRX STI. It's got huge torque (407 Nm), impressive power (221 kW) and relatively good economy (yeah - right, says Mr. Leadfoot ) allied with superb reliability. It's a good natured unit - more docile than the absolutely manic twin-scroll turbo 2.0 JDM engine which puts out pretty similar power and torque figures and revs to an incredible 8000 rpm for a turbo'd engine.

Subaru: questionable styling but irrefutable engineering prowess.

They'd make great mid-mounted engines for sporty RWD coupes and roadsters.

Re: Porsche Boxter to get 4 pot engine by 2011

Great engine indeed

But since Porsche pretty much owns VAG now i think they are gonna use Audi's awesome 2.0TFSI with the same output as the S3's 260hp which is more than enough for an entry level Boxter

Yeah, could be Tarek. I think you're right. Hope they'll tweak it a bit to be sportier though, but that motor is indeed awesome.

Re: Porsche Boxter to get 4 pot engine by 2011

The VAG 2.0 TFSI is an inline engine. Really not suited to the dynamic and packaging requirements of a mid-engined sportster. Boxer engines exist for a reason.
