335i vs 335d at the drag strip

335d has a tune otherwise stock. 335i is stock.

Camera mounted in 335i which is in the right lane, 335d in the left lane.

Had 6 runs with the same result.
Swapped cars for a run, and again same result

why ???????

One car is modified, the other is not, had the 335i been remapped it wouldnt have ended like this.

PS

330hp golf ed30 runs 1/4 mile at the pod in 13.2. Now that is impressive, fwd slows it down!

Do you read car magazines?

Last months Performance Car timed a tuned 335i and tuned 335d 0-60 and 0-100 etc.

0-100 they were almost identical... so had the 335i been tuned they would have been almost the same.

FWD actually has LESS Transmission losses than RWD. Thought you would know this...

Best ive done is 13.3@106mph, best diesel ive seen has done 13.2.

i expect next time to go quicker.... Id also expect a lighter golf with only 10-15HP Less to be as quick... LOL

So impressive for a diesel. Im so happy... Well done BMW your marvellous

Re: 335i vs 335d at the drag strip

Guys be careful! Not again such a weird and hopeless diesel vs. petrol engined car discussion!

It's impressive how the diesel perform…a true car for traveling long autobahn distances! Nevertheless the 335i isn't even bad – especially because it's the stock version here!

335i is a wonderful car, as is the 335d. BMW are the only company where there top line petrol and diesel engines are closely matched.

My friends have 335i and some 335d. We test them on the race track, road and drag strip.

Stock for stock there very close, tuned there also very close.

What i do not like is when people dismiss the twin turbo diesel, just because of the fuel it consumes. They dispute how fast it can be without true facts and figures.

I know exactly what you mean!! And I have to say, I'm a completely diesel fanatic…I love our E 280 CDI, although it has "only" 190 hp…but it's a comfortable car for long distances and straight line (when it is warmed-up etc) it is even running more then 240 km/h, up to 255 – and your definitly one of the faster on the autobahn then. And the fuel consumption is way better, then the one of her petrol car sisters…you couldn't do 800+ km with one tank of fuel with them! Well, an W211 isn't as sporty as a 3-series…but that underlines, that those sporty diesels like 335d are also good for some "racing" around the track… …and just remember the V12 TDI Audis in LeMans… definitely sth. against such a discussion if diesel engined cars are really preparable for the track and racing.

Not quiet true. VAG 2.0TFSI 200hp and 2.0TDI 170hp are evenly matched. Both basically as quick as the other.

So its not true to say bmw is the only company to provide such a close match. Vag TDI 170 remaps to 250hp with dpf delete. Without dpf delete 210hp.

Anyway, you have a nice car and a extremely quick one at that. Perhaps one day we will see each other at he strip and have a play!

Yes i have found the E92 coupe a fine machine on track and coupled with the monstrous torque of the twin turbo derv she is a real flyer.

I wonder what MPG the V12 audi's were getting at Le-mans.
I also what HP and torque figures they have.

Thats pretty amazing then also if the VAG diesel is as fast as the petroleum version.

When you say DPF you mean Particle filter yes? SO they get that much more HP from deleting that? just with a normal re-map or custom one? what other mods to produce 250bhp?

but surely then Mate it smokes like a Kahoona?

It would be great to meet up at a meet one day to say hello.

ALso thanks to BARTEK for embedding my video properly
