Re: BMW Light Weight coupé

Yep, this is "Z5" AutoBild was reporting few years ago.

It was a lightweight prototype built by BMW Technik GmbH, mainly built from alu alloys & carbon fibre: for testing lightweight solutions which will slowly but persistently creep into production cars (e.g. new Z8).

But personally I still hope BMW will offer a super lightweight coupe in the near future. It would be a great Imageträger.

That would be more appropriate than a classic supercar.

This one? Nope. It's only a prototype - built in only one edition.

The technology is still not ready yet. The car has combined alu - carbon fibre body construction which is very expensive to repair after the eventual crash - even further: the abnormalities on the structure are very hard to find, and they can be only finde by a very expensive method. Neither the crash impact consequences are fully researched. But BMW engineers are working on proper solution - but as you know time is needed (and money of course). And when the solution will be production ready I know BMW want hesitate to put it in production - for super light coupe (but not mid-engined!).

So sometimes in the distanced future ...

Re: BMW Light Weight coupé

Translated from Dutch:

You do me but from the BMW z serial Z29! No problem, I ‘m just as for you to outside will drive?
Z29 is a study model which shows a lot of resemblances with the BMW Z4 coupé. However before you become entirely warm of, I must disappoint you, because this prototype will be never taken in production. It is a study model of where BMW experiments with new material to reach lichtgewicht a sport car. The chassis of the car were built for a large part carbon fibre, with which approximately 200 kilos bodyfat became geloodst.
With only 1,160 kilos and with the 343 pk strong engine equipped from M3, you not much fantasie needs consider that this is a monster. Every pk must only 3.4 move kilo. This type weight capacities proportions to see you also at much the stronger sportauto’s like for example the Porsche 911 turbo (480 pk) or the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (540 pk). BMW for have however chosen not to zoeken the exploits in more pk’s, but correctly in a barge weights of the construction.
Result: 0-100 km/u in 4.4 seconden. 80-120 km/h in three seconden. top speed of 270 km/u. Lekkerrr hoorrr…

Re: BMW Light Weight coupé

The side profile reminds me a little bit of the Mcoupe that is currently in production.

Re: BMW Light Weight coupé

The whole thing looks weird, and very unBMW like. I hate the head lights and the old Honda Prelude looking rear. The profile is just ugly, imo. Whatever, to each their own.

Re: BMW Light Weight coupé

All Technik's prototypes ("Zxx") look weird!

Have you ever seen one of them before?

Take a LOOK.

They are not design exercises - just a ad hoc designs for working prototypes - this one particulary (like I said before) is for testing lightweight body structures.

Re: BMW Light Weight coupé

Z18 is pretty nice.

And the 2 wheeler two.

The rest are completely nasty...

Along with the new one...

Why redesign and create a body and all that with lambo doors, if its only being tested for light weight?
