Re: "We fear no competitors" says BMW’s UK Marketing Director.

I think BMW has reached the top. Look up franchise prices. The average Audi franchise is around 10 million while the average BMW franchise is around 40 million dollars. This means the Audi product makes less money because naturally its a less desireable product. THats just an interesting point. I do not agree with him about direct copying but I'm sure BMW leads the way where audi follows in the general direction Not to copy but to capture some of the market share that BMW already dominates.

BMW is doing so great!

I agree with the comments made on Audi, too. And Audi really is a wannabe BMW (not in design per se)

That comment is soooo low. Why Audi is a BMW wannabe?
Audi=FWD/AWD, BMW=RWD, BMW uses I6 , Audi V6. Audi uses FI and NA engines , BMW only NA ect.

PS. New M3 will use a V8 engine , i guess that makes it a RS4 wannabe.

Audi has previously expressed that its target demographic is similar to that of BMW. Also the company isa aiming to develop a dynamics (handling/ride) compromise more akin to BMWs, which is why there have been engineering changes to provide newer vehicles with a better weight distribution. That said however, AUDI could NEVER be accused of being a BMW wannabe. There are enough differences between the companies for each to have their own very distinct identities. Audi's have their own distinct character and feel and are now very much the German German out of the 3 luxury players. And I think this is why they are becomming ever more appealing.

BMW is the benchmark in driving dynamics. That I can't deny. Every company in the world is trying to beat them in that. So it's obvious that Audi is trying to reach them in that aspect. On the other hand Audi is the benchmark in built quality. Every marque in the world is trying to beat them in that aspect. Noone can be the benchmark in everything. BMW leads in handling, Audi in built quality, Lexus in reliability , Mercedes is overall image and prestige.
If for example BMW tries to make their cars more reliable does that mean that they are a Lexus wannabe? Certainly not.

Re: "We fear no competitors" says BMW’s UK Marketing Director.

Do you think Audi is really the bench mark in Quality? I beg to differ. That may be what they try to portray and they do make a strong product, but I'm not sure about quality in general. I walked through an Audi dealership by my house and went through the pre-owned models. Cars like the A8 and the old A6. To be honest the "fit and finish" on the inside was falling apart. Plastic was coming off from knobs, buttons were falling off, the once black color of the dash was yellowing. Now I know this is one example but still, its etched into my memory considering the car was only 2 years old. Now maybe your refurring to the engine and what not, but this is just my personal experience.

What? I have seen many 10 and 20 year old Audi after hundreds of thousands of Km and never had any problems. I 'm sorry but i find it hard to believe you. One of my neighbors had up to recently a 20 year old Audi and he still used it as it didn't had any problems. He was so happy with it that he recently bought a second hand B5 Audi A4.

Re: "We fear no competitors" says BMW’s UK Marketing Director.

Surely Audi aim's for a younger more dynamic crowd like BMW, that whan't a more of a driver's car like BMWs.
Also the Audi A6 was clearly influenced by BMW's Bangle Humanity philosophy, BUT and here a big BUT, he's words are mostly pure crap
, this self-arogance, lack of respect and complacency, have been the cause of MB's downfall, and have no place at BMW.
It makes both the BMW and Audi fan in me discusted.
And if we look at the W221 it's or new Lexuses you can see clearly who really are the copy cats.
So my question is what's this guy been smoking ?!

His words are not pure crap.
I have read plenty of interviews with people like Bernd Pischetsrieder that they want Audi to be like BMW.

And Audi's quality is over rated. E90 is better than A4, E65 is as good as A8 and E63 has no Audi match
