I'm surprised with the M156 wasn't included in performance engine and the LS7 placed so low. I guess judges only consider high hp/L instead of inovation in real world applications.

Re: Edmunds: BMW 5-Liter V10 Wins International Engine of the Year

what about Lexus' 3.5 litre that produces 306 hp.
or Nissans/Infinitis 3.5 litre that produces 290ish.
or The 3.8 litre Carrera S engine or 3.6 litre Carrera engine.

Theres a bit of competition I believe...

Re: Edmunds: BMW 5-Liter V10 Wins International Engine of the Year

well hp/l wise, the 3.0/3.0turbo, and M3 engine all are spectacular, but an in depth comparison that includes consumption, performance, weight, durability, etc... would not undermine these packages, these engines are as near to eprfection in their respective classes as possible

The Nissian and Lexus engines are hardly performance engines and for the Porsche engine, well I guess just like I said, who cares it doesn't produce over 100hp/L.

Re: Edmunds: BMW 5-Liter V10 Wins International Engine of the Year

neither are the new BMW 3.0 engines in turbo or NA form, but they offer as high hp/liter as possible without stressing them, coupled with DI for consumption, they have class leading weights, and some of the best curves avaialble,

Re: Edmunds: BMW 5-Liter V10 Wins International Engine of the Year

Yeah I'd say the 3.6 liter flat six in the new GT3 is far more deserving than the same old 3.2 liter straight 6 in the BMWs.

There are rules for a engine to compete here, it has to be in a car thats been for sale a couple of months already also the engine need to be sale in more than one market. I dont think GT3 engine been out long enough yet to be in this competition.

Well that means that the M156 (63 AMG) should not have competed as neither the ML63 or CLK63 are on sale.
