BMW today released new details on its much-rumored N54 Bi-Turbo Engine. The motor is expected to appear in the 2007 BMW 335i and 2007 BMW 335ci (coupe). The engine has an output of 306 horsepower and maximum torque of 295 lbs.-ft (400 Nm). BMW said it has already tested a 3-Series sedan with the engine, and achieved a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds. BMW said the engine is relatively lightweight — about 70kg less than its 4.0-liter V8 engine. According to the automaker, the 3.0-liter engine has little or no turbo lag, thanks to two small turbos instead of one large one. Maximum torque is achieved between 1500 and 5800 rpm. What we know so far: BMW will show its new E92 3-Series coupe at the Geneva Motor Show along with this new engine. What's no entirely clear is whether this engine will make it to North America. Recent rumors suggested this turbo engine would be exclusive to Europe, and a different naturally-aspirated powerplant would drive the 335 in North America.

LeftLaneNews

I think most god NA confused for "Nort America" perhaps? I really dont' think BMW would deprive the N.A. market of a twin turbo motor. If anything at all, I think it would be the motherland that would disown such a reality.

Interesting how the 3.5L I6 NA engine rumour is still alive. Internet is such a manipulative mediuim. One little b.a.s.t.a.r.d. started a rumour at Bimmerfest in November, and the virus spread all over te net. Amazing!

Stay tuned!

Btw, that LeftLane news is a summary of Tine's post (and debate that started there) at Bimmerfest forum (also replicated by someone in E90Post):

Quote:
From BMW Press Club Site (German):

N54 Bi-Turbo engine with HPI direct injection.
306HP, 400Nm available in range 1500 to 5800rpm. Max 7000 rpm. With full aluminium crankshaft casing , Bi-VANOS, electric water pump. 70kg less weight than 4.0L V8 NA engine. No turbo lag.

Tested in E90:
80-120kmh in 6.3s (eg. 330i in 8.2s)
0-100kmh in 5.7s (eg. 330i in 6.3s)
Just to let you know how some blog news are innovative.

Re: 3.0 litre twin-turbo OFFICIALLY released

It took a long time for this engine to be unveiled, I remember years ago when the 5er was being released and the M5 was being tested, we thought some of those were testing the new 3.0 litre turbo! Taken it's time to come to light.

Any guesses which cars it will be used in, the whole of the 3 series range, and the 1er??

Tuningcompanies are going to love this engine. A chip and we will get 330hp easily. Thats what I think.

Who cares about chips? 300 hp in the 3 series is more than enough.

Ah c'mon Yannis... I know you want more!

I wonder to what extent it'll be tunable?! Hopefully as flexible as a 1.8T.
