Things are not looking too peachy right now if you are in the car industry. Although I am a temp as well, luckily I haven't been affected by this... yet. Most people affected by this layoff are the ones that working on the line i.e building your cars. I'm in quality assurance/engineering so I'm ok for now. Here's to hoping for a brighter future.

All I cay is... 2009: It's going to be a hell of a ride

Will do for sure! I'm in an ok position right now, but at this point, no one can feel too safe. Unfortunately, that's kind of how things go nowadays. Most places, you start off as a temporary employee. It's not all bad though, there are definitely perks of being a temp.

I feel terrible for the guys that know they are going to be jobless by the end of the year.

I know GE isn't doing too great either. Do you know anything about Michelin?

Here in Sweden on the news they talking that Saab and Volvo might go bankruptcy. First step is to fire people. The car industry is hurting.

I honestly don't know any Michelin folks....kids soccer, business contacts,etc..GE is hanging in there on the industrial side ( stuff here in the Upstate). You would think Michelin would have been hit...since they are such a big OEM supplier to the auto industry. Not heard anything though.Going to the EuroFest?...I'll be around.Thanks. Scary that it's possible the world economy hasn't hit bottom yet. I'm quoting directly: "The good old days are over". I think it's going to take years for the car industry (if not the whole economy) to recover.

Yea, absolutely not a good time to get started in the car industry on my part . I feel bad for Volvo though, I think they really did put in a lot of effort on the C30, and that's tanking miserably here. I really like that car a lot.

Michelin are kind of the dark horses of the Upstate. No one seems to know anyone from that company at all. With the car industry being down accross the board (really, EVERYONE is hurting), there's no doubt that Michelin and other suppliers are going down as well.

I'll think about going to Eurofest, but the F1 race is in China... thus from 2 till 5 am, hahaha. Not to mention Virginia Tech is playing Boston College tomorrow. It's going to be a looooong weekend. Are you going? Also side note: BMW Ultimate Drive is coming to Greer in Dec. Signup is early Nov. Make sure you sign up!

Internal forecasts: If the crisis continues BMW AG may sail into red numbers deeply in the Q4 2009.
