Luxury BMWs: X6 xDrive50i or new 750i?

Ok, I think it's worthwhile at this point to a hold a little unconventional poll. The scene is this: you're a wealthy executive or entrepreneur and you're in the market for something with flair, luxury and dynamic driving characteristics for your urban commute.

You often transport two or more big-shots to various business appointments and you seldom use the car for personal, family or recreational use.

Popping in to the local BMW dealer you're presented with two cars on the floor: the F01 BMW 750i and the X6 xDrive50i. Same engine, totally different concepts. Which would you choose and why?

Bear in mind this is strictly a BMW discussion in the BMW lounge; this is not Internal Combustion. So whilst references to other competitors may be tolerated - no derisive anti-BMW statements are allowed.

The purpose of this poll is topical: whilst the cars are vastly different, there is considerable overlap in the target market.

[Oh and please add nice pics to illustrate your argument! ]

Although my post has nothing to do with my choice, I just want throw a spanner into works. You've outlined a scenario where an executive is to choose a car between an executive car vs a not-so executive SUV. So there is an element of bias here, in the sense the the F01 is designed for the business executive, whereas the X6, not so much.

Who knows if that makes sense, I'm still celebrating the All Blacks win over the Boks

Re: Poll: Luxury BMWs: X6 xDrive50i or new 750i?

Hello Gene

Long time no speak mate. I think that, based on the word from BMW CM, the X6 is every bit aimed at the successful individual who's looking for the luxury and prestige experience coupled with SUV-like ride height, driving position and sense of security. This, we're told is the raison d'etre of the X6. What it lacks in goodies vs. the 750i it makes up for with driveline technology and unique, arresting looks.

So the 750i is the more tech-laden machine - traditionally a luxury executive - but the X6 has to be seen as an alternative. It's certainly aimed at affluent, style conscious, statement-prone individuals, no?

[All Blacks 16 - Boks 8] Well done... talk again on the return leg!

Indeed, long time no speak!

I think in this day and age, the entire BMW range is considered an alternative. It really depends on the industry of the executive, the environment that executive works in (e.g. is it a small company with an organic staff structure etc). Reality is that I'm just arguing for arguments sakes .

*Ahem* [All blacks 19 - Boks 8]

Re: Poll: Luxury BMWs: X6 xDrive50i or new 750i?

^ Of course, I agree with all that you've said. Question is: which one would you choose and why?

The svelte, ultra-sleek 7er:

Or the mould-breaking, highly individual X6:

Let's face it; in terms of gadgets they're pretty much in the top echelon and any differences are only consequential to the most obsessive prospects.

*ahem* [erm, did I miss a last-minute peanut? ]

Interesting poll. But unless the big-shots are not so big, I think that requirement pretty much rules out X6 considering how limited head room is in the rear.

But that part, purely on looks , I prefer the X6. It is much more aggressive looking. As for handling and performance, not sure how the 7 compares.

Come on now Martin ....you're describing yourself here aren't you

I love the X6 ...it is a terrific car. But as Gene said, the 7er is designed with precisely this customer in mind ....there is no question here for me, the 7 is the car I would choose.

Re: Poll: Luxury BMWs: X6 xDrive50i or new 750i?

I would take the upcoming PAS ... Since it will be the most individual & bizarre BMW ever. And luxurious, of course.

Btw ... Looking at X6 vs. new 7er pics it's evident X6 is "pre-new-era" design. F01 is much more refined & resolved. That's even more evident IRL.

F01 has such a strong stance. Very formidable. Something intangible that oozes pure prestige. Something other BMWs lack. That's the most improved part of the new design : showing much more instant class & prestige.

Re: Poll: Luxury BMWs: X6 xDrive50i or new 750i?

Allthough i dont like the new 7er much..
it still gets my vote here..
To use a X6 in this kind of situation would give me some kind of wrong image..
The 7er is made for these situation..
