MB's new diesel should have won however! Probably wasn't eligible yet.

Sure...

6 prices. It's getting boring for the best engine maker in the whole wide world

Lol...sorry I didn't mean it should have won overall. But the MB diesel should have won it's segment.

MB is the master of diesels. The 3.2CDI in the ML is much more refined the the 3.0L in our X5.

No, BMW is master of diesels. BMW diesels has more sportier character than MB diesels

This isnt the first diesels award for BMW - 535d engine won a previous year.

When it comes to diesels, sportier character is not the prime concern for BUYERS. Refinement and consumption is. Mercedes is superior in these respects. Mercedes has Bluetech, to which BMW has no response, and if the just released 2litre (which I doubt was evaluated by this award ) is anything to go by, will have even more impressive numbers. The new MB 2 litre easily outclasses the numbers of the equivalent BMW, and bodes well for the bigger variants on the way.

I'm not disputing BMW is king of petrol engines (though this is also debatable lol but let’s not go there) but MB is no slouch when it comes to diesels.

What I realllly want to do is have a test drive of the 3 litre twin turbo BMW engine. By all accounts it’s amazing. I need to go the the BMW dealer and pretend I'm in the market for 335i.

But nothing says refinement is a priority in IEOFTY awards and therefore its not 100% sure that the diesel engine from MB would have won. Which you gladly were claiming MB has diesels on the market today but still no award so what you are saying here is that the Bluetech engine is the only good diesel engine from MB

They should rename it to BMW International Engine of the Year Awards. They completely DOMINATE every year!

Uhm....it's not all about car x having more Nm and hp than car y. It's about how the engine works and behaves as well.
BMW simply makes better diesel engines. In fact, BMW makes the best engines period. Soon there will be hybrid engines from BMW winning awards too.
