You should know better than that. I'll bet you that's the exact same reaction people got about the first gen X5. We don't know what it's going to be like, but I for one am really curious about it.
Well, Im not curious at all. What a utterly pointless car for me.

Re: BMW at Geneva 2008

Boy when the Germans join the bandwagon they don't mess around. Pretty soon Toyota is going to find itself without any advantage in this arena at all.

I guess PAS will be shown later (Geneva 2009?) - as "a pre-production concept", not as a design study. Same case with X1. BMW do not show design studies quite frequently.

What will be legit for a design study: X-sedan (X4 SAS), or Z8 / Z9 / Z10 roadster / coupe.

And do not rule out a tour-de-tech concept in the future (by Technik department): feat. candies like carbon body frame, camless engine, 42-Volt power system, IP based car network, ConnectedDrive controls etc.

Re: BMW at Geneva 2008

BMW X5 diesel-hybrid concept, 1-series tii and M3 Convertible headed to Geneva

BMW will be showcasing two very different concepts at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, one a brand new eco-friendly vehicle touting the latest in EfficientDynamics technology and the other a previous sports concept displaying the carmaker’s new performance accessories range. The third major attraction on BMW’s stands at this year’s Geneva event will be the introduction of the new M3 Convertible complete with the carmaker’s all-new dual clutch gearbox.

Following on from the X6 Active Hybrid concept from last year, and the X3 Active Hybrid concept from 2005, BMW will showcase a new diesel-hybrid powertrain in a new concept based on the X5 SUV. The two-mode hybrid system, co-developed with GM and Daimler, uses twin electric motors which can either be used to boost acceleration, charge batteries or as a generator to mutually power each other. The two-mode active transmission is based on an ECVT electrical continuously variable transmission. The two operating modes, one of which has been optimized for low, the other for high speeds, are supplemented by fixed transmission ratios.
Also on display for the first time will be the new 1-series ‘BMW Performance’ range. Based on last year’s tii concept, the new range includes plenty of carbon-fiber, race-style alloy wheels and a new bodykit. For more details on the M3 Convertible,

BMW Announces Geneva Show Plans

BMW’s presentation at the 78th International Geneva Motor Show 2008 will be characterized by the continuation of the company’s model initiative and the BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy widely lauded for its progressive outlook into the future. In Geneva the world’s best-selling manufacturer of premium automobiles is presenting thrilling new models in various segments, concentrating in particular on the ongoing reduction of fuel consumption and emissions.

• BMW EfficientDynamics: innovations for enhanced fuel economy and greater driving pleasure

Every new BMW now comes with BMW EfficientDynamics. Taking a more comprehensive and consistent approach than any other car maker, BMW has made the enhancement of efficiency its all-around policy in the development of new models. Fuel consumption is therefore dropping consistently, while at the same time every new BMW offers even greater and more fulfilling sheer driving pleasure than ever before. And now at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, BMW will again present the technologies already offering these two aspects of progress today and of course also in future.

• World debut: the new BMW M3 Convertible

The thrill of a high-performance sports car and the pleasure of driving in the open air – the new BMW M3 Convertible will offer both of these outstanding highlights in an incomparable combination. Indeed, this unique model will bring together the athletic design and the 414 hp V8 power unit of the BMW M3 with the low silhouette so typical of the BMW 3 Series Convertible with its automatically retracting hardtop.

Now joining the BMW M3 Coupe and the BMW M3 Sedan, the high-performance Convertible will be the third member in this model range, the high-speed concept of its engine ensuring impressive traction and pulling force, the low waistline on the body providing a particularly intense driving experience in the open air, and the strong hardtop guaranteeing maximum noise control and motoring comfort also in winter.

• World debut: the new BMW M Double-Clutch Gearbox with Drivelogic

The principle of shifting gears without the slightest interruption of power and traction is ideally suited for accelerating all-out with maximum performance – and now this new dimension of driving performance will be offered for the first time in the combination of a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox and a high-speed power unit. The BMW M Double-Clutch Gearbox with Drivelogic will be presented at the 2008 International Geneva Motor Show for the first time in the BMW M3 Convertible and will also be available in the BMW M3 Coupe and Sedan.

Once again, BMW M GmbH is taking the lead in the area of automated transmission technology, Drivelogic ensuring optimum selection of driving programs tailored to the driver’s personal preferences and driving conditions in typical M style. In all, the system comes with six driving programs in the manual and five in the automated mode, again making the BMW Double-Clutch Gearbox absolutely unique.

• European debut: the BMW X6

Following the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), BMW is now introducing the Company’s next innovative concept: the Sports Activity Coupe. The BMW X6 is the first vehicle worldwide in this new category, combining the supremacy and presence of an SAV with the driving dynamics of a sports car and the elegant lines of a large BMW Coupe.

Apart from intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, the unique driving experience offered by the BMW X6 is attributable to Dynamic Performance Control likewise featured as standard in this new model: Unparalleled the world over, Dynamic Performance Control shares out drive forces infinitely between the two wheels at the rear in the interest of supreme agility in bends, exemplary driving stability, and outstanding traction in the BMW X6. Another new highlight to be experienced for the first time in the BMW X6 is the new 400 hp V8 power unit with Twin Turbo and High Precision Injection.

• European debut: the BMW 1 Series Convertible

The starting point leading into the world of BMW Convertibles, with an incredibly direct experience of the sun shining in and the wind rushing by, uncompromising premium quality and the agility so typical of the BMW 1 Series – all this comes in the BMW 1 Series Convertible. Powerful engines, rear-wheel drive and unique design characterized by the low silhouette of the car so typical of the BMW brand guarantee a new dimension of open-air motoring in genuine BMW Convertible style. Driving dynamics quite unique in this segment are also one of the car’s unmistakable features and strengths. Particularly the BMW 135i Convertible with its straight-six power unit featuring Twin Turbo and High Precision Injection for maximum output of 300 hp sets a new standard never seen before.

• European debut: BMW performance – Original BMW Accessories for even more Sheer Driving Pleasure

The range of Original BMW Accessories is being enlarged by a new product line in the 2008 model year: The “BMW Performance” trademark now stands for accessories emphasising in particular the sporting character of the car. All components in the BMW Performance line are of course tailored to the respective model, enhancing the sporting performance of the car in terms of engine characteristics and the suspension, optimising the car’s aerodynamics and at the same time upgrading the exterior and interior in appropriate style tailored to the dynamic character of each model.

The wide range of BMW Performance accessories is making its debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the particular appeal of this new line of accessories being presented in particular on and through the BMW 1 Series Coupe.
