OMG!! Day is destroyed - horrible!!!! What did they do to it…NO NO NO!!!

We should create a thread: "Rescue the real Arnage!" or sth like that. Compare this to the current Arnage/Brooklands range and tell me where the fault is…

Bye bye Bentley - you build great cars, but that's it - IT'S OVER…

I was really hoping, that it will look great - but this is…DAMN…

Obviously the car will be called "Continental Arnage"

OK, the front is horrible. Air intake & Grill look cheap. As do the headlights. Are those holes around xenon lamps meant for LEDs??? I hope not. That would be just awful.

The rear is typical Bentley - nothing new there. The rear lights seem to feature those ellipsoid rings as seen already on Continental series.

The profile seem long & beefy. With VERY low roofline & shallow greenhouse. Very CLS or Cadillac Sixteen like. Wheels look huge. The stance is sporty & powerful.

The whole design looks like an evolution of Arnage - with modern (convex - concave) surfaces, sharp thin creases - as already seen on Continental series. Looks like very neo-retro. Much more than the Continentals. No more pioneering, leading position. Neo-retro instead of new-modern. Continentals were much more a push further - although some sharpness was lost. But this "Grand Bentley" is just ... not doing it well. Where's the statement? Such brands are not about cars, they are about philosophy & statements.

Yes, the stance will be sporty - but the look won't be aggressive at all. IMO even the Rollses today look more aggressive compared to the bug-eyed Bentleys.

*****

Unfortunately Bentley brand is becoming "das Auto" - another typical car product under VW phylosophy. The point behind the brand is vanisihing. The products & the brand don't make any statement anymore. They are ... just cars. Very good & excellent cars. But just cars.

IMO - what BMW Group did with the RR was much better - regardless the design: they just knew & understand what RR is all about.
I'm not sure VW Group understands whats the point behind Bentley. Or .... They are making Bentley tame - so they will be able to position other brand above it: Bugatti. The ultimate luxury.

Who knows. IMO VAG brand management isn't the best possible. Bentley would do much better under eg. Daimler AG (instead of Maybach brand).

WTH?!!!

I can't believe that's it!

The execution of the front lights is equally terrible as on the Bentley State Limousine :

From Car Mag:

Quote:
The new Arnage is clearly aimed squarely at the Rolls-Royce Phantom end of the market. There's an imposing front end, the visage dominated by an huge mesh grille bisected by a chrome upright and bordered by a pair of lights. Each lamp is ringed by a corona of LEDs (<-- Answer to EnI's question) and there's a matching mini chicken-mesh grille below.

...

Note the curvy tension built into the Arnage replacement's bonnet; there's real form, and the swelling peaks and troughs of the bodywork hark back to the 1950s R-type and other classic Bentleys.

...

Is the new Bentley Arnage a saloon?

Yes, although styling chief Dirk van Braeckel's design team has spirited in the feeling of a long, luxurious coupé. It's not clearly visible on these shots, but the rear door handles will be hidden and the bootline arcs downwards with a decidedly retro flourish.

...

>> Come back to CAR Online on Monday 6 July 2009 for more photos and revelations on the new Bentley. We'll have details of the V8 powertrain and interior of this exciting new addition to the Crewe family

Even the most stunning interior can't amend this "stylish" exterior…

I can't wait to see these "LEDful" headlights IRL.
A true LED porn for fans. LOL.

Now that would be an awful implementation of LED corona "Angel-eyes".
Like in RangeRover FL case. Yet even worse.

Jingle bells, Jingle bells ...

PS: those LED holes look so big --- like some hidden machine-gun, or rocket launcher in some Bond car.

I really hope the production solution will look better.

I'm hearing there are some huge celebrations going on in Goodwood. j/k

Even though it looks rather bad, I really want to see press photos of the car. Half the time, leaked pics don't show the car all together or at a good angle, so I'll wait to see hi res pics..
