I'm gonna give this car some time. It does look great, but there are some things I don't like about it (as most of every car). We'll see how it fares in road tests and what not.

Re: R8 pic thread

I am not going to lie, the car looks very interesting and it is nice, but I do think that it will get old very fast. If you look at the MB SLR it looks sleek and fast, and can be held in the MB line for years to come. All that needs to happen is for Audi to change its design philosophy and boom! There goes the R8 and its design cues. I think the design represents the epitomy of Audi's design.

We've touched on this subject before w/ the S-class. So here it goes: Audi is not going to go w/ some radical design philosiphy makeover overnight, or ever for that matter. From the beginning of time til now they're progress in design has been very subtle and evolutionary, much like Porsche. Audi knows they are an exterior, then interior design leader in the automotive industry, and they are by no means going to risk that for anything, and that includes overtaking BMW as the number 1 premium luxury car brand. Audi is about doing what it does best and leaving all the rest to whoever else.

Re: R8 pic thread

I love the interior but I am not too sure on the shift stick...

It looks kind of like a rice mod or something...

Re: R8 pic thread

Deutsch, I like the exterior ...but it is not quite as clean and unfussy as the typical Audi style. It is reasonably good-looking ...but I don't think I could ever call it absolutely beautiful ...it looks more or less like a modified TT to me.

Do you think it looks more like a Japanese concept car than a German car?

The detailing is quite Japanese IMO ....I imagine the Japanese will love it. Japanese design is often very detailed -- an "additive" design philosophy -- like an assemblage of different individual parts rather than homogeneous and seamlessly coordinated.

Just my take on it

Re: R8 pic thread

I don't agree w/ you on the Japanese detailng bit. However I do think this car is highly detailed in the general sense as we have come to expect from Audi products. I'm sure most people here have long forgotten the original Le Mans concept that is the precursor to the R8 we see here, so it's not totally out of the box and unexpected for Audi to have designed this car the way they did. I think the detailng inside and out is quite German, I think what throws most off is the interpretation of LED lighting in the headlights. As oppose to being singular units, such as the turn signals we see on the S6, they are intergrated into the headlights in a very vocal way. You cannot miss them, you're forced to recogniize the face of the R8, which IMO, isn't a bad thing and further gives this car the visual credibility of a sportscar with the unique design. Another thing; I started to fault the R8 for looking a little too Gallardo-ish in some respects, but it is Audi who bought us the Gallardo, so it's a pretty even killed look. The overhang I thought was a bit longish on the R8 too, then I looked at the Gallardo and saw that it is much the same, it's just how the front comes together is very different from the R8, it's the difference between angular and curvaceoius that sets the two apart.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Very true IMO.

I agree with that..Its like its made up of parts instead of one entire whole. Enilab was comenting on how the back end looks like its almost glued to the front. It is a good looking car and I dont think people can denie that but still, it could be better IMHO.
