Today's MBs & BMWs aren't - especially when featuring AWD. Audi still portrays AWD (quattro) as an Audi domain. Hardly. Since its direct rivals also offer AWD systems in almost every segment - or are about to. Regarding "alternative luxury" image campaign ... Acura & Infiniti also went same way ... and ended nowhere. The only true jackpot was made by Lexus in the past: offering more for money - affordable luxury: excellent quality for less money. Not the case with Audi though. IMO Hyundai has more chances to steal away some luxury sales with its cheap(er) Genesis. Audi has to find another message to really succeed. BMW = performance luxury, MB = comfort & genuine luxury, Lexus = good value luxury. What's Audi? Alternative based on what? Image only? A no go. Something more has to be offered. Something more tangible - over the rivals. Audi. Engineered by Porsche. Such message would do miracles even in US market. |
