MLP is a "flexible" platform meaning the wheelbase , the length and the width and can easily change and key components are shared across the line up in order to reduce testing times and expenses for new models.
Everything from electronics to drivetrains can be interchanged to allow for customized architectures for each model as required.

In other words:

"a set of modular, longitudinal building kits… that are shared among a product family. The modular approach can bring cost savings and enable a quick introduction of variants."

Many other manufacturers are using similar modular architectures like Aston Martin and lately VW and Ford (including Volvo and Mazda).

Old news to me

At least it squashes the rumors that the Phaeton will be based off of the A6

When they do this, "Bentley" will be dead as far as I'm concerned.

Maybach uses the old S class platform, are they dead for you also?

Nope, they aren't. Maybach and Mercedes have been in bed together since the beginning, big difference between their relationship and building a Bentley off of a what is bascially a fwd platform. Not even close to being the same thing. Bentley and Audi have never had any association until now.

Also, Maybachs are not on my list because of their styling, save the 57S..not because of their platform.

Ahem, not quite Marcus. It is true that Wilhelm Maybach was the technical director at Daimler for a while but he left in 1907 to start his own company -- Maybach also conceived engines for the Dutch company Spyker.

The Maybach cars were not related to Daimler-Benz at all. Daimler-Benz bought the Maybach brand in the 1960s.
