29.3 Liter V12 -- Blastolene Special (Not Jay Leno's)

"1952" Blastolene Indy Special -- for Sale by Symbolic Motors

Specs:
  • Engine: 1,790 Cubic Inch V-12 (29.3 Liters)
  • Transmission: Allison 4-Speed
  • Length: 21.5 Feet
  • Brakes: Hydraulic Disks from a Diesel Truck
  • Price: Not Given.

Features:

4-wheel hydraulic disc brakes from a diesel truck, Eaton rear axle, and a solid beam semi front axle. This car has a 160" wheelbase with an overall length of 21.5 feet. The suspension incorporates Monroe shocks with airbags for ride adjustment, and the exhaust exits through exhaust cutouts on both sides of the body (directly under the cockpit).

Comments:

Everything about this car is unique, from the chassis to the polished aluminum skin are all hand formed. This car was designed to emulate the Indy 500 cars racing during the 1950s. It all looks correct until you get to that gigantic engine that is the equivalent of 5 - 350 Chevy engines in displacement! Whenever this thing is started (and there is a procedure to doing this), people come running to see what it is.

^ It would have failed had it been raced in the 50s (though the rules didn't allow such ridiculous displacements). The most powerful cars of the 50s, the Novi Specials would constantly fail to win the Indy due to tire wear and fuel consumption issues and they had nowhere near 29.3 liters of displacement.

It has the specifications of a World War II aircraft engine.

Probably somewhere around 800-1,000.

Leno's 30-Liter V12 had 900 horsepower. He converted it to fuel injection, added two turbos, and now it has 1,600 HP Interestingly, he also double the gas mileage by doing so. Instead of getting 3 MPG, he gets 6

True. And this seems to be more of an extreme show car than anything else. I doubt it's even street legal in its current form. No headlights, turn signals or fenders.
