Audi S6 and S8 prices for U.S. announced. - 09-07-2006, 10:28 AM

Audi S6 and S8 priced for U.S. consumption

Audi has announced that the 2007 S6 sedan will start at $72,000 in the U.S., while the 2007 S8 (Euro-spec model shown) will begin at $92,000. Don't forget the $700 destination charge that's not included in the price, as well as the $1,300 gas-guzzler tax for the S6 and $1,700 for the S8. Still, for now these two vehicles stand as the least expensive way to mash the throttle of the Lamborghini Gallardo's V10, which has been detuned to 435 hp in the S6 and 450 hp in the S8. With that kind of motivation, the S6 can charge to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and the larger S8 can reach the same mark in a more impressive 4.9 seconds. Neither are quite as fast as the Gallardo, which can reach 60 mph in a hair under four seconds, but can the raging baby bull carry four people in comfort? We think not.

S8 price is pretty amazing considering the 760Li is 115k+ and I don't even want to mention the S600's price.

Yeah, the S8 offers a rather surprising take on its rivals... It has sporting intentions, is cheaper than the flagship V12s, and yet it's just as fast... I guess only comfort is sacrificed here, but even then I'm sure it won't be drastic. Furthermore it has the S/RS pedigree that's missing from the V12 flagships... Exclusivity is further enhanced.

Expensive, but for the compeptition, content, and performance, the pricing is spot on.

Well the S8 pretty much has the segment to itself until the S63 comes along. Well there is the Quattroporte Sport GT which is about the only other larger sporty sedan around right now. The S8 is a bargain compared to the 760Li and S600, but it doesn't compete with those cars either. The only 7-Series that may have been a competitor the SWB 760i Sport has been dropped from BMW's 2007 U.S. lineup and there is no S63, at lest not yet.

The S6 wisely avoids a direct conflict with the M5 and E63.

Audi announces pricing for 2007 S6 and S8 performance sedans

Ajax, Ontario - Audi Canada has announced prices for its 2007 S6 and S8 models. The mid-size S6 sedan will start at $101,900, while the full-size S8 will start at $129,700. Both models will be available at Audi dealerships across Canada in October.

The S6 is now the top of the A6 range in Canada. It is powered by a newly developed ten-cylinder engine of 5.2 litres which produces 435 hp at 6,800 rpm and peak torque of 398 ft.-lbs. between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. The S6 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The S6's dynamic suspension settings have been made firmer, even compared with the A6 sports suspension.

The S8, based on the all-aluminum A8 sedan, is also equipped with the 5.2-litre V10 engine that delivers 450 hp at 7,000 rpm and 398 ft.-lbs. of torque. It has a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension: its air springs and shock absorbers integrated into the air-springs are somewhat firmer. As well, the S8 is factory fitted with newly developed S-design 20-inch cast aluminum wheels, and a special interior with an optional Bang & Olufsen sound system.
