Rumors about a new V12 diesel engine for the A8. - 09-05-2006, 01:22 PM


There are rumors that Audi is busy working on a 5.5 lt V12 TDI engine for A8. This engine originates from R10 and according to autoblog.it it will have at least 550 hp and 1100Nm! Could this model be named DS8?

Our buddy Luca and his gang of Italian viscounts at Autoblog.it say Audi may be preparing to drop its LeMans-winning V12 TDI motor into the A8 flagship. That would bring between 500 and 650 horses (depending on turbos and tuning) and just over a gajillion lbs.-foot of torque to the limo. We're still convinced the company will also drop the 5.5-liter mill into its R8 sports car, but that likely won't happen until at least a year after launch.




Sounds impressive!!! The TDI touch is the way to go... Hope it makes it to the US!

I think I read someone in AMS that they really want to build such an engine for the A8 and the Q7!

That's true. This just confirms earlier rumors that R8 will be the first diesel powered supercar.

If there would be a DS8 with 550hp Diesiel engine, that would cover the wounds of the "only" 450hp S8.

At least 500, cause the A8 W12 has also 450. And the engine S8 has is made for 500hp, and not 450.
