Wow excuse me but im dissapointed.. this car doesent thrill me at all.. and now im not even thinking about the weak power..
But on the other hand they say it costs arond 97000 euros.. and thats not so much compred to the S55 .. its almost as expensive as a S500 L here in sweden.. and thats HOT...but still looks abit dated and not so fresh.. and it gets trashed by W220 600´s and AMG´s..
And we have the W221 now.. so this will obviously be no competition.. | | | | | GCZ's High Court

Wow I totally forgot about this car. Looks stunning. It might not be the fastest car in straightline but must handle well and be fun to drive.
i said it long time ago, the new S8 wont have over 500hp but noone believed me.

I just read the article on GCF!
I'm a little dissapointed by this car, it seems they have done the same as MB did with the W220 with have 2 engines with the same power and speed, one sporty and one for luxury!
I wanted more power than this, 450bhp isn't huge in this market, the 7 series doesn't seem so underpowered now!
Also the bodykit isn't so good looking! The front looks just like an A3. BTW are the LED lights which stay on all the time an option on all A8s? The rear looks quite nice with the quad pipes and I like the rims! Maybe I'll like this car more if I see it in black! | | | | | Global Moderator

"The V10 in the Audi S8 weighs in at a mere 220 kilograms, in other words 20 kg less than an equivalent competitor engine. " - Fourtitude Article
I guess you all know what the competitor engine is. | | | | | GCZ's High Court

I guess you all know what the competitor engine is. | Hmmm, but it has 57 hp less as well and it doesn't rev nowhere near the M V10... Not even to mention the performance... | | | | | Me for President

Not even to mention the performance... | The same engine will be used in Gallardo, it will have more than 520 hp and it will rev as high as you like so it's not that the engine doesn't have the potential but it's that Audi is using it on a model that's one segment above the 5 series in size (although the S8 is only 120 kgr heavier than M5 including quattro AWD). So they wanted to focus on torque instead of horsepower. | | | | | Fanatic

A couple of things:
1. Why on earth didn't Audi release this at Frankfurt instead of now at Tokyo?
2. Great engine, 333 kW (450 bhp) is more than adequate for this class. It's got good torque (above benchmark for a naturally aspirated engine) low down and a relatively unremarkable redline of 7000 rpm - hence the perceived "low" output. It is nice and light for a V10 and mated to sensible gearing out to produce a far turn of speed.
3. I think this new S8 looks utterly fantastic. I love the grill and love the fact that the well-heeled with a sporty bent have the choice of such a sporty looking luxury saloon.
4. Sure, I suspect it won't have a patch on the forthcoming S63 in terms of outright pace, but I do feel it'll be an absolute pleasure in the twisties and in inclement conditions. After all... at this level is 0-whatever really that important? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
