The trend towards using top-brand hi-fi systems has taken another step forward.
Audi is offering a bespoke Bang and Olufsen system for the A8 which is said to be tailored to the exact acoustic characteristics of the car. It features Bang & Olufsen's patented digital amplifier technology, ICEpower, which supplies the 14 speakers - each with its own dedicated amplifier - with more than 1,000 watts of power. The system also uses two moving acoustic lenses, one mounted on each side of the A8's dashboard. When the sound system is turned on, the acoustic lenses rise to position themselves on top of the dashboard, radiating sound through a full 180 degrees.
The price of all this technology is predictably high - £4,500 on all models except the S8, where it costs £3,775.
