Why do you not think it could ever be made to perform well on a track Luw?

Just look at it roberto the size and weight of the car speak for themselves. On top of that the A8 is a luxury car which is built to transport people in maximum comfort and we all know that absolute comfort and fantastic track performance don't go together. You could make the suspension really stiff but that would destory the purpose of the A8 and the car would just be a large and fast, and not what it's suposed to be which is a large and comfortable long distance cruiser.

Sure, I understand all of that Luw, but the A8 has a very rigid all-aluminium body - I'm sure with extensive use of light-weight materials an RS8 could be an awesome vehicle - yeah ofcourse the idea is ridiculous - but so was the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo, the Bentley Turbo R and RT, the Bentley ArnageT, etc.. - sure they're not track cars but they're fantastic - I just have this dream of a large luxury car using lots of lightweight materials with a super-rigid aluminium body - it so sounds like an Audi RS8 to me.

The A8 does have potential but around a track it would get destroyed by the RS4 and RS6. On the other hand there will be an S63 for the one who want a little bit more raw luxury car. BTW does anyone of you know if the CL and S55 have much sitter suspension than the non-AMG verrsions.

Audi said several times that the RS series is only for the A4 and the A6 range. So there won't be any RS8.

Abt and MTM which are well known Audi tuners will give a power boost to S8 i 'm sure.

Well sure - look at what AMG have done with the Maybach 57S - who would think a car like that could actually perfom as it does.

Re: Rs8 - 12-27-2005, 01:07 AM

I'm all for an RS8. Of course it won't perform like the RS4 at the track, but then again the S8 doesn't either. There is nothing wrong with a large luxury car with huge power that can handle, it doesn't have to be a track car. No one would expect a S55 or RS8 to be a dedicated track car anyway. I'm sure for their size and weight they do quite well at the track. If Audi wants to gain in prestige against MB and BMW something like an RS8 introduced along with the R8 sports car would be just the ticket.

BMW might even feel compelled to do a 750is or something.
