I really don't get why so many of you are taking what I said to heart? It's my personal opinion, leave it at that.

It only makes sense to compare the M5 to the S8, they're not very far off competition wise, both upper crust sedans w/ V-10's capable of running w/ sports cars(M5 at least), and lastly, there's no direct competitor from BMW to the S8 from the current generation 7 series.

IMO they are far away from competitors. The M5 is a four door racer capabale of being used on a track while the A8 is just a fast very luxurious long distance cruiser. In fact the S8 is more of a 760i sport competitor.

True, 760i is a sporting car, but not to the same degree, nor in vain of anything along the lines of the S8.

synopsis of 760i from bmwusa.com:

Quote:
The 760i is the sublime culmination of all things BMW–performance, luxury, and technology–united in order to grant the driver an unparalleled experience behind its sport-spoked steering wheel. Beneath the sculpted hood lurks a 6.0-liter, V-12 engine, producing 438 horsepower and 444 lb.-ft. of torque, the power of which is manifested in the massive 20-inch wheels and performance tires, as well as standard Electronic Damping Control suspension with default Sport mode. Luxuries are also found in abundance in the 760i, including an Active Support “massage” feature in the driver’s seat, Active Ventilation on front seats, Dark Ash wood interior trim, and a 13-speaker Logic7 audio system with 6-disc CD changer. No other vehicle can approach the 760i’s singular combination of thrilling sport performance, and lavish comforts.

I wasn't posting this to give some sort of an idea from a review. Obviously. I posted it to show the content and features. I apologize for not finding a better example.

I do know that Bimmer magazine tested the 760i, I will try to find something and post it in here.
