Apart from the fact that what Clarkson says could be true/false/exaggerated, you have to admit that he is a really skilled writer!
(About BMW Z8) It had the underpinnings of an M5 and a body so beautiful I had an ache in the pit of my stomach when I first saw it. But it drove like everything had been attached to everything else with spit and two crossed fingers. It was awful.
(About Audi S6 Avant) It will only set off at full pelt, which is a nuisance when you’re having to contend with a gearbox that works like it’s on cannabis, and steering which — I feel sure — is made from old driftwood.
...
They call it “S line”, and it doesn’t take too long to work out what the S might stand for. Clue: four letters, begins with S, ends in hit. Which is odd because it really isn’t one.
...
Their bosses should certainly dig out their CVs and do some deep background investigation, because they’re either imposters or they’re secretly working for BMW.

Judging a car based on what we expect it to be is totally wrong. | He said the ride was way too harsh, so in his opinion, it fails to be a luxury cruiser period.
It's odd, because I remember reading reviews and thought the M5 had the harshest ride. I don't remember him mentioning anything about the ride on the M5 like he did with the S6 though.
Another thing... giving a 1 star out of 5 is harsh! | | | | | Global Moderator

These are the words of an Audi fan (Fourtitude member) who has driven the S6: I've spent four days behind the wheel of a new S6. Yes, the throttle is touchy. Yes, the suspension is on the firm side. But, neithe rof those issues in ANY way ruins the experience. The ride is firm for a C-segment car, but its far from punishing. The car feels very nimble.
As much as I love driving the RS 4, I honestly have to admit I'd rather have an S6. It may no tbe faster on the drag strip, but it is in daily driving. At any rpm above 2500, the S6 is a monster. The RS 4 needs 4,500 rpm to come alive with any real authority. Its MUCH easier to wring the performance out of the S6 than the RS. Yes, the RS is more balanced (the S6 still pushes at the limit), bu tthe new 40/60 split in the S6 really helps in the handling department. Especially under power through a turn. | | | | | Devotee

Audi fans shouldnt really be bothered by this. S6 is here to fill a market gap while we wait in anticipation for the RS6 just like the 335i is here to fill the gap before the M3 comes. However BMW did a better job with badging it. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
